Found a couple tenths at The Beaver
« on: September 15, 2022, 07:53:58 AM »

Started getting some 1.45 60' times. Had not been better than 1.5s previously. Best pass over the event was a 10.73@124.86. Video is of a second round pass in Hot FE. Thomas had me from the hole and all the way down the track but let off to avoid breaking out and I got him at the stripe by .0040. That was it for me as I went red by a lot in the next round.

Nice! The third gear wheelie is an added bonus.

That means you have a couple more tenths in it. Beaver is entirely uphill, and guys typically run 1-2 tenths slower there. Looks like the car is running hard. Nice job.

Thanks, Doug. Missed that blue Mach this year.
As you and Dennis know, and every other three pedal operator it can be a dance at the starting line there.
I dropped the X pipe and mufflers on the second day to shed some weight and the car went slower. The 10.73 was with the X pipe and cut outs open on Friday.  Everything after the collectors was 2.5”.

Yeah, Beaver is the reason I had to put a line-lok on the car, although it was really needed anyway. But it's almost impossible to get a good start there without one. Just remember to release the button once you take off, and not drag the front tires 30', like some dummy I know....meaning me. ::)

That surprises me that you went slower without the exhaust. I dropped my exhaust and took off the air cleaner on the last day of Drag Week 2017 and the car went .3 quicker. No cut-outs though, and a full 2.5" exhaust, so not exactly an exact comparison.

I weighed the X pipe & mufflers today and was surprised it was under 40 lbs. Might have went slower due to the track or the tune? The A/F sensor bung was in the X pipe assembly so I don’t know where my “mix” is at. Hope to learn more at my local track before the end of the season.

Nice!  Do you have an adjustable clutch?  Seems tight.  Some ET there.

The clutch is a Ram adjustable unit but it’s a street/strip unit with a lot of base. Ram spec’ed it for the car. Has counterweighted arms, (9.2 grams each arm IIRC). Aluminum flywheel.
Are you suggesting that I dial back the pressure based on how car launches or? Slicks are run 12.5-13.2 psi, launch rpm is 4K.

Appreciate all suggestions.

Whats the 1st gear ratio and what rear gears?  The fact that it pops the front up on shift indicates its tight.  Do you have an input shaft sensor?

3.08 first, 4.86 final ratio.

No input shaft sensor, no Race-Pak. Would not be surprised if car ended up with a Race-Pak at some point. Had an Innovate system that could log from several sensors but it is currently not in car. It was sent out for service and I am not impressed with unit in general.

Are you looking at having my level of clutch slippage determined and adjusted accordingly?

Thanks

If you are serious about ringing out the et, a logger with the sensors are worth its weight in gold. This is what i use. https://www.rpmperf.com/store/p/basic-10-channel-data-logger.  It much more reasonably priced than a racepak, and does the same thing and is easy to use. I log fuel, oil, rpm, input shaft rpm, driveshaft rpm.  You will need to pull the trans to have the input shaft sensor put in.  With those gear ratios, you can definitely raise the launch rpm.  Experiment with tire pressure and get the best rear shocks you can buy.  Caltracs like 5 inches of front end travel too.

Looking to wring out some more tenths, yes. Figure there is .3+\- to be found.
Appreciate tip/link on rpmperf.com unit. I won’t pull/disassemble  trans just to install sensor but absolutely see the merit of measuring clutch slippage amount.
I thought the first end of the car to upgrade shock wise would be the front. Was considering some Viking DAs. I feel like the rebound needs to be brought under control.

Thanks much

What front springs are on the car?  Yes front shocks are important but the back of a stick car and getting control is super important.  What shock is on the car?

There are Calvert 90/10s with Calvert 9 way adjustable shocks, (Rancho)? out back. The rears are set on 3. Calvert split mono leaf/bars.
Front coils are a stock type and possibly spec’ed for an AC car as car was originally equipped that way.
