another Quick Time Bellhousing question FE to C 4trans
« on: August 13, 2022, 10:43:26 PM »
anyone else run into a problem attaching C4 Trans to Quick Time Bellhousing?  This is a protrusion at the front of the trans that keeps it from mounting flush to the bellhousing?  was talking with Joel's shop about trans this past week and was told they have run into this and have been talking with quicktime about this issue?  Joel's shop asked us to send them pics of this

The QT bell will only fit a pan-fill C4.

Good info - since I prefer the case fill units.

Brent, got a TCI pan fill C-4, does not look like it will match up the the Quicktime RM-9056 bellhousing?  is this supposed to bolt to the pump bolts or the outside perimiter bolts on the transmission housing?  TCI 511605 Trans.  Thanks for any help you can offer

Aye, good to know ... thought only the JPT were pan fill only

I haven't bolted one up to a C4, but I know the bell has 7 bolt holes in it, so I assume it lines up with the pump bolts.   Notes say it is pan fill only.

Thaks for the help Brent, my first Auto Trans car to put together, in past always top loader trans.  Seem like they would make bellhousing use the bolts holes in the trans case vs. the pump bolts.

Usually - the bell bolts to the case on a case fill C4.  Those would use a 164T flex plate on a 351W, etc.  The case fill units should bolt to the pump.  That may not be universal, Ford liked to make design changes as we all know LOL.  But the early 70s cases I use follow that logic.  I think a lot of C4s (C5s?) after 1975 or so were primarily pan fill.  The two "big block" C5s I have the came from behind 1978 era 351Ms using a 429/460 bell pattern and the bell bolts to the case with a pan fill dip stick.

I like the smaller 157T bells.  At least around the bell area, it's a tighter package.  Little easier fitting headers into a Falcon/Fairlane chassis with a small bell.  Requires switching to a PMGR start on something like a 351C block because it tucks the starter in closer to the pan rail, but those PMGR units are so good that should be a "just do" kind of thing.

Even the dragster uses a 157T flex and a JW 157 adapter bell from a W pattern to a Powerglide.
