BBM BLOCK OIL GALLEY NOT DRILLED
« on: July 26, 2022, 08:26:10 AM »
This is another confirmation to CHECK EVERYTHING when building an engine.
I wasn’t getting any oil to the topside while priming on the stand. Discovered that the top
Longitudinal galley was not drilled all the way through. Easy fix, if caught early.
I know this is common on 460 Eliminator blocks. Anyone run into this with BBM yet?

no block problems but,i bought a set of bbm heads,at the time all i had was stock bolts  with my hs rockers.while torquing the rockers,i did not know that the stock rocker bolts were too long for bbm heads when used with hs rockers with stock bolts.i busted into the runners with the rocker bolts and it caused a smoking issue.the aluminum at the bottom of the rocker stand bolts is only as thick as a dime.while torquing these bolts i did not even feel it busting through to the runners.

I had what sounds like the same problem with my BBM block a few months ago. While priming the engine I was not getting any oil up to the rocker shaft on only the passengers side, drivers side was fine. Ended up switching over to pushrod oiling instead (Thanks Brent) and has been fine ever since.

Curious SAcobra427 were you using head studs instead of bolts, when I went to aluminum heads I wasn’t getting oil to one side and it was a stud not letting oil up. I milled down the bolt a few thousandths and all is good..

This is a pushrod oiling setup. I blocked the deck passages. Oil wasn’t  making it to the lifters at all, until I drilled out the upper galley

Stangman, No that was not the issue I had, I ended up pulling the head off and still only would get a slight amount of oil coming out of the block. Only other thing it could have been was if the 4th cam journal bearing was somehow incorrectly installed, not very likely though as the machine shop who did the work is very well versed in the FE engines and had done 5 of them prior for me over the years and never had any issues with any of them.

I dont have a BBM block , but would think for sure a call to them is warranted. Thats alot of money to be out to have to start drilling oil passages.

seems like normal stuff with an aftermarket anything,  check and recheck and don't assume anything
