WTB 3x2 Tunnel Wedge
« on: April 19, 2022, 08:42:33 AM »
Long shot, but does anyone have a 3x2 Tunnel Wedge for sale?

These were available from Carl's Ford Parts at one point, but no longer listed.

Those intakes were basically a Dove open top tunnel wedge intake, with a flat plate to mount the carbs.  If you could find one with the 2X4 plate, you could just fabricate a 3X2 plate and bolt it on.

I didn't want to say anything negative about that manifold, but on dyno testing, it did not equal a Performer RPM for power or torque.  It look great, but for looks only.  Joe-JDC

Good information, Thanks

I thought that it may be a better intake for a higher effort 406 build for my G code Galaxie, but maybe not.

Looking to make more than 500hp, but the restriction looks to be the 3x2 manifold.

You can make 500+hp with a 406 6V set up, with a bit of work. Here’s a link to the engine I built for my 63 Galaxie. It made just over 540hp, while looking stock.

Thanks for that link. Awesome build.

Any idea what the heads flowed after porting to make that power?

I have had my eye out for a few years for one of those. Only 1 has appeared since my hunt has started and it went to Drew P at Air Fuel Spark.

I have looked at various ways of making a 3x2 setup happen with other intakes. I tried to modify an Edelbrock 2x4 air gap intake but a bunch of welding would have been required, it looks promising at first glance.

Carl had one remaining on his shelf about 5 years ago when I called, it had been powder coated black so I passed on it. Really regret that.

I don’t have any records of what the heads flowed. They were standard cast port Survival heads, but they were hand ported by Joe D. Craine. At a guess, around the 330cfm mark at 0.650”.

Thanks!

Debating on whether or not i should "waste" a set of TFS heads on the engine.

I am in the same boat. 445 with BBM heads. With the current unavailability of intakes, it was either this or an Offy I had on the shelf. You can always change it down the road, but ain't she cool.

Could that be due to the underlying Dove casting of a tunnel wedge? I believe the internal spaces/runners of Dove's version were larger. For large displacements.  Too big perhaps for sub-410 cubic inches? Leading to sluggish airflow?
