Lower hose
« on: March 24, 2022, 07:07:47 PM »
Before I am doomed to go in the back room at the local Napa and search through late model hoses I thought I would ask here. Anyone have roughly this configuration on the lower and found a formed hose that fits ? I modified the input on the water pump to get it away from the cover but the stocker still wont go. The stock hose comes out of the radiator and goes up to meet the water pump which is on a  higher plane. The inlet on the water pump here points lower then the port on the rad. So the hose has tome come out and duck down. I know I can use a flexy thing but I hate the look of those damn things...

This is in a 70 mustang by the way and I have those adjustable engine mounts on it which I swear lower the engine a touch.

Thanks

Think your stuck in that back room, unless someone here can chime in. Also have a '70 Mustang (358 CID SBF) with an aftermarket radiator with an unusual bend at the lower port. Had to take some measurements to my local auto parts store and search myself.

Bleh , I swear that Motorcraft KM-308 looks like the ticket .  Its from a 71-3 mustang cougar with the cross flow and probably has the same thing going on . https://www.ebay.com/p/80987424 .
I may just roll the dice and save the frustration ,,,,,,,,, maybe,,,

I assume you looked in the water pump adapter instructions?  The Dayco hose listed there looks like it may fit, although it could be a tight squeeze over the nipple going into the water pump, because the one you are using is fairly large in diameter...

I have done the Auto Parts storeroom search for a lower hose for my 64' Fairlane (FE) and found the answer contained within the lower hose, formed-to-fit, for a 2003/04, F350 Super Duty with a 6.0 diesel. My purchase was a Gates#22779 which turned out to be excessively long for my application and I needed to trim approximately 1 inch off only one end but both inside diameters were correct for the lower rad. outlet and WP inlet. Although my application is Fairlane the situation is very similar. Good luck.

Lower Hose: C4SZ-8286-A the Motorcraft equivalent is KM-128. Modification:  3/4" trimmed off rad. side.

I did this for my '66 Fairlane with a Howe Racing Radiator.

Here's the only picture I have on hand.

Lots of hoses now are longer than nessessary to fit more applications. New hoses for my 57 had to shortened on both ends to fit correctly.

Is it just me, or does the Edelbrock aluminum FE water pump have the lower rad hose nipple a bit too big? On my 59s 428 , for the aluminum radiator, I used a 67 Mustang 390 upper hose, and for the lower, I used a stock replacement hose, but to get the hose onto the Edelbrock pump, I had to put the hose in boiling water to soften it enough to barely force it over the nipple, which was sprayed with silicone spray. And once it grabbed on, if I ever need to remove the hose from the pump, I will likely need to cut it off. I had to trim both hoses to length, as the radiator on the 59 is a fair bit closer than, say, a 66-69 Fairlane, or a 67-70 Mustang FE.

Rory I thought I was the only one. Nobody ever complains about that. I had to grind down that lip of course left alittle for gripping but had to take off alot.
As far as a lower hose I used 2 hoses and put an exhaust union in the middle. I wrote down the numbers to the hoses and of course I cant find the paper.
I have a crosssflow in my 67 and the radiator is a duplicate of a 430 modine so the hose on the bottom is alittle higher. Its like what comes out of a 81 t bird

Try getting that lower hose onto the wp with a mongo RobbMc fuel pump in place. I learned that the hose goes on first. It will never slide on past the pump, even with it being greased.

The motor craft hose did the trick . Was the right sizes and after cutting about 2" off the pump side was the right length...
