In 64 I put a 312 in a 34 coupe but it was so long ago I don't remember what I had to do to install it.
I was 17 years old at the time and my mechanic skills were not very good.
I don't remember any problems except the oil pan hit and I had to make it fit.
Wish i could help you some more on it.
I will say it really makes a nice driving car with plenty of power.

Thank guys.
Was in the atics of the shop today. And there was the 36 coupe cut to pieces
with an axe. That my dad found and we planed to build a Roadster out of for him.
There is a rebuilt chassie and fordoor body in another barn. Started to thinking
one last project, Weld together a frankenstein coupe,60-70s style, stinkbug stance
65 Mustang buckets,  green plexiglass roof insert, 12x15 slotmags, manual trans,
cromed rollbar, hurstshifter...........
either my 390 stroker with a tunnel ram, 289 with a crossram,
or a 312 with a 4/71 blower, 9inch rear, Explorer rear leafsprings ,Jaguar XJ frontend.
preferably use the 390 if it fits without taking up to much space inside the car
I have everything needed exept a trunklid

You don't need a trunk lid, just put a 10 gallon chromed fuel tank in it on stands.
Would make fill ups easy.

I would think any healthy FE would twist up any 30/40's frame?
Are they stronger than I think or modified or no traction or ?

I can just make comments on the 34 but it held up to a 17 year old with a 312 duel 4 barrel camed up with a ISKY cam just fine.
My problem was breaking trannie's.
I would go though 2 or 3 a month but they were only $10.00 at the junk yard at the time.
I could pull on out in minutes and got fairly good at rebuilding them.
I have seen 40's running hemis on the orgional frame with no problems so they are stronger then most people think.

Strong enough, A frame takes more twisting been driven over uneven road than a engine will twist it
And in my case with a Jaguar ifs where the engine is mounted to the ifs crossmember it will take upp
most of the torque  then you have the big X-member then i mount the rear end in paralell leafs out at
the frame rails compared to original buggy spring mounted at the center
