Hooker 6114 Question
« on: April 23, 2013, 03:27:21 PM »
The application date for the popular Hooker 6114 for FE Mustangs specifically states they are for 16-bolt heads, then a footnote says "except Cobra Jet".  I sent a message to Hooker asking what this meant and the reply said that the CJ bolt pattern and port size are "different".  This makes no sense to me, and I know many are using these on CJ Mustangs with good results.

Has anyone determined the real reason for the footnote excluding Cobra Jet from the useage of the 6114 header?

The only head that came from the factory with 16 bolt holes is the CJ.
Me thinks they have the issue mixed up.
The 14 bolt heads, ie: C7 GT heads and C8 heads do not have good port alginment
with the Hookers.
I've run Hookers on CJ heads in Mustang and Fairlane and never seen any issue, well other than
trying to get the bolts in. lol

The listing is correct the bolt pattern is different. I used the 6114 on GT heads for years with no issues. The top bolt hole on the outside cylinders do not line up they are off about 3/8 of an inch vertically. Take a strait edge and lay it across the NON CJ heads and you will see the outside top bolts are lower. I also believe the bottom holes are non existant thus 14 bolt instead of 16 bolt. I used them they sealed fine with the right gaskets, there a few versions of the gaskets. Someone else will chime in All I can say is I used them for 30 something yrs. I have Ed Heads now and for the first time in 39 yrs I'm using 16 bolts.

I am unclear what you are saying, but the Hooker listing specifically says they are not for heads with misaligned holes (which I assume means 14-bolt GT heads).  CJ heads are in-line 16-bolt heads so why the exception?  I am sure they have been asked this hundreds of times; puzzling why they don't fix it in their footnotes.

All I can say is I have used them up till 3 or 4 yrs ago. The front and back port only get two bolts on each side. I Took those same headers and put them on my 16 bolt Edelbrocks.
