No stroker for me
« on: April 15, 2013, 11:38:59 AM »
I have inspected my blocks and
no one is stroker material as i
see it and i want an engine for
the summer
stroker have to wait till i find a
block
So now i will rebuild my original
PI for the Galaxie
its bored 0.60 and sonic 0.100
in some spots .
The cyls are god so just a hone
and new rings
with one combination of heads i have
and the 10 cc dish pistons thats
in the block i get 10.5 ish C/R
if i take the block down to zero
and 0.040 gasket

with the cams i thinking about
comp cams  282S or 294S i get
dynamic C/R of 8.3 and 7.9.
We got 98 oktan in the pumps
here in sweden how much dynamic
C/R can that take

The heads are C1AE-A with CJ valves
and some cleanup porting  Streetmaster
intake  cast factory shorty headers
carb 750-780?? EFI later
I guess i will get Close to 400 hp ???
atleast with the 294s

We have 92 octane here, either with or without 10% ethanol (non ethanol blends are available in the summer).  With this fuel I usually target 8:1 DCR with cast iron heads and 8.25:1 DCR with aluminum heads.

What about your blocks is steering you away from a stroker?

one block is leaking water in to the
chanel that feeds oil to the heads :(
one is bored 030 and need more
and sonic to thin
and the PI block sonic 0.100 in
some spots and i dont want to
risk the original block from the
Galaxie and at 060 i dont know
if i get stroker pistons
There is custom pistons ofcause
but i gues they cost more than
a block when i find one

8:1 with 92..  then i could use the 294S
and mill the heads some.... how much
milling can early 60s head take

And if some one have a sugestion for a
better cam please let mo know must be
mec. block not drilled for hyd

Did some meassuring and calculation today
the Engine had C/R of 8.25:1 with a 294 degres
cam no wounder it was a dog. Pistons 0.30 down
the hole. Cyliders was very shiny but meassured
fine some rods got a slight bend, nothing serious
just need some straigthening. Wear patern on
bearings is fine crank is fine deck is slightly out
of shape ill be taking it down to zero anyway
rear cam plug instaled wrong way .
To compensate that they milled for the cam in
the trust plate ::). One lifter and lobe worn
New hv oilpump

Its great that you were able to figure out what the problem was.  You can make sure to correct for it when it goes back together.  I think you could go with either the 282S or 294S cam; both are good cams.  To be honest, I think I would lean towards the 282S with only 390 cubic inches; it will be a little more torquey in the midrange than the 294S.  But I guess it depends on what you want from the engine...

Yes it had never runned like it should  when i bought it
12-13 years ago it was with the intention to fix the
Engine but...Life got in the way for that ::) ::)
I lean toward the 282 myself since the stock PI cam
is a 282/ 440 lift  and i save this Engine for the car when i build
a stroker...But the teanager in me keeps wispering about
a 308 roller and a tunelram ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I dont expect some miracle from this Engine just a god
performing drivable street Engine with some punsch
if i hit near 400 hp im satisfied

Another thing i would like to try. The 3X2 edelbrock
intake you tested in the book was way undercarbed
I have one of those and im thinking about modifie
it for 3 2100 ford carbs the midle carb from a 289
and the two outward carbs from a 390 that will
give the Engine enough carbs.
But i Think the runners in the intake maby is on the
 small side
what do you think?

Heo - as a point of reference for you, I offer this link that I posted on here a while back.  I sold the engine so I can't say how it drove in a car but it isn't that different from what you are considering and it sure made nice numbers on the dyno IMO.
