Almost ready for RMRW 2.0
« on: August 19, 2021, 07:57:53 PM »
Took the Mustang out for a little drive this evening.  I plan on (finally) taking it to the track tomorrow evening to make a few passes.

Certainly going to be a different experience than cruising the Galaxie! Bummer the FE didn't work out. Hopefully you can get that sorted out. Good luck at the track.

Hey Alan what type and brand radiator are you using in the mustang.
That's a Summit store brand 19x31 2 core radiator with two 12" Spal fans. I believe NorthStar is the supplier for Summit. It cooled my 452 FE just fine on RMRW 2.0 last year and so far seems to be cooling the 520 BBF ok too.

I ended up only making three passes of which my first pass was the best 11.23@121 mph. The second I knew wasn't going to be good as soon as I got to the burnout box as there was hardly any water in it. I kind of hopped through the burn out and ran about a tenth slower. On my third pass I put some air in the slicks to see if it would improve my 60ft times but it went slower. Also while in the staging lanes on my third pass I noticed I had forgotten to put the roll cage diagonal bars in! They had already had one guy kiss the wall so I didn't want to push my luck. On TNT nights tech inspection is a little lax to say the least. So, I have the exact same combination I had in my Galaxie right down to the rear gears and it ran .6 of a second quicker 9mph aster (I think)and is 800 lbs lighter. I need to get the suspension figured out since it still has slower 60ft times than my Galaxie. The Galaxie would consistently run right around 1.63 60ft and the Mustang had 1.65 1.71 and 1.77. I am pretty sure it is spinning. All in all pretty happy though. It runs real straight and stops straight.

Going straight is always a top priority. Glad it sounded uneventful, which is a good thing. Do they prep the track on TnT nights? Some tracks don't do much on those nights, so that may help when you hit the track on Race Week.

No they don't do much prep on TnT nights. I am going to make some adjustments on my Cal-Trac bars and try to get down there again in a week or two. They have TnT almost every Friday night at Tulsa but this coming Saturday they are holding a NHRA National event so I imagine the pits will pretty much fill up on Friday.
