C8AE-H head question
« on: July 21, 2021, 07:11:58 PM »
Did C8AE-H heads come with the dual exhaust pattern for standard and GT exhaust manifolds? The '66 F100 I have been piddling around with has a later 390 2V  and C6 in it. I believe it all came from one donor vehicle and is all original as it still had the engine tag on it and when I swapped in a Edelbrock F427 intake it still had FoMoCO gaskets. Anyway, I just assumed it came from a '68 Galaxie but when I was fixing some exhaust leaks I noticed it had the GT exhaust bolt pattern as well as the standard. Could it have come out of a Y code 68 Torino?

Depending on application could have the 8 bolt pattern or the 14 bolt.  That head casting number were used from 68 to around 72.  If it has the engine tag on it should be simple enough to decode. For it to have the 14 bolt pattern and a 2V carb would have to be a 1968 engine either a Y code from a Torino/Montego or an X code from a Mustang/Cougar.

They had either 8 bolt pattern or 14 bolt shock tower pattern. The upper end bolt holes in the 14 bolt shock tower pattern are about 1/4” lower than the regular pattern, if the heads have two sets of holes on the upper ends than someone definitely added the extra pattern.

On the ends you can see the double upper holes. The engine tags decodes it as a Y code 390. Just kind of interesting. Is it kind of odd to see a Y code 68 Torino/Fairlane? Back in the early 80s I bought two Fairlane rollers, a 66 and a 67. Both were night mist blue 2 drhtps with Y code 390s with three speeds on the column. My older brother still has the '66.

I had a “Y” code ‘68 Torino GT Fastback, my friend BradFord has it now. Per the Marti report 10,670 were built with the C6, so add in some more with manual transmissions.
