Evidently it was a crime ring that the police had been terrorizing the town for some time.

Anyway, he was able to recover some of his property,

Let me guess, the gun was not recovered? Sorry to say this, but if that's the case, it was stupid of him to leave a gun in an unattended vehicle. IF that's the case, he is now responsible for a loose gun floating around in society. I hope I'm wrong about that.

At least the police were pro-active. Here, a local small used truck seller had a couple of trucks stolen last year. Local sheriff would not do anything about it (they had "bigger problems"). Police in a neighboring state found one of the trucks, being sold by someone that was a known thief/scammer. They wouldn't prosecute, and neither would our local sheriff or DA. Guy got off scott free. Complete BS if you ask me. It just burns my ass that thieves get caught, then let out to repeat, with no consequences. What the hell do they think is going to happen? Next time I hope it's THEIR junk that gets stolen!

Horse thieves used to be jailed or hung. It used to be a serious matter.

A couple weeks ago there was a fuss on local social media about a teenager on a bright green skateboard nabbing packages, and a Ring picture was taken, but the mask... I opined that he maybe watching for the Amazon trucks and pouncing, as a couple packages had been hidden behind bushes but quickly disappeared- turns out he was. He was recognized by the green skateboard by a neighbor, and his mom got a visit from da fuzz. Gotta credit mom, they found the latest package he nabbed, and moms made him take it back and hand it over  :'( He had a media account where he was selling the stuff he was stealing

I honestly don’t remember, I’ll have to ask him, but you are correct, it was irresponsible of him to leave the gun in there. We live i. A fairly small town, this sort of thing is a lot more common that most people want to believe around here.

I reread my post, and think I shed the local PD in a bad light. My brother said they were absolutely great to deal with and were Johny on the spot when it came to showing up ASAP and catching the crooks.

I should have elaborated, I can’t remember the details exactly, one of the guys tried to cash a check, my brother bank manager got an alert about it, immediately called my brother to verify it was him, when it wasn’t, the cops were called and they got to the place before the bad guy left. Another guy got nabbed at a pawn shop, I think that one was from his iPad popping up on the “find my “ app, again, cops got there quick and made another arrest or two.

By pro-active, I mean they actually did their job, unlike the ones in my area. Sounds like they did a good job, too. I really hope that gun gets recovered.

I live near a small town community also, and theft is much higher than people would think. Heroin is a bad problem in a couple of nearby larger towns, which bleeds down to some of the smaller communities, and it all leads to thefts to support their habits. Tis the world we live in today.  :(

Any menace to society does not deserve to be part of society and should not be a burden on society.
I'm with you, you are not alone on this by a long shot.
