I rarely get my panties in a bunch over such things. Stupidity and laziness is so rampant that I must be desensitized to it.

If the product you need/want are inside that building, you gotta do what they say to get it. Rather than take it personally, just do it, get your product, and be on your way. Or not.

Doing without because of a conflict of personalities seems silly to me.

Given the current state of things, they may not have anybody on site full time that is charged with handling direct over the counter sales.  Those guys you saw may very well be responsible for pulling parts from shelves, packaging things for shipment, or sweeping the floors.  Several commercial warehouse places around Detroit ask the same thing - place you order with your phone via a call or electronically - and they will have a guy walk the parts out to your car.  No sales or order entry, card reader, cash register, or even a counter required since many cannot even get workers right now.  Not what we all want - but sometimes having the item is more important.

I have a something to add i contacted a supplier here in Australia to get some bucket seat covers made in the USA.
There reply said a lot to me before I say my thoughts I don't know how bad it is in the USA but the reply I got forwarded said that your workers get played more to not work atm . To me that screams under payed workers I'm sure not all places are like this. Minimum wage here is 20ish AUD per hour not sure what it is in the USA but the US supplier said the extra 300 dollars they get atm stoped workers working. Just my 2cents looking from far away.

Askin cause, some folks in US says 15ish  minimum in US will drive burgers way up

I'd go along with a call to the owner.  Find out the explanation of why it is set up that way.

It makes me think that they actually don't want to deal with "cash" sales anymore(dealing with a cash register).  A local bearing house has done that.  No more counter sales basically.  Kinda sucks, but it eliminates having to deal with cash customers(like me).   Luckily the other place I deal with is still open.
