McLeod steel flywheel....
« on: May 09, 2021, 12:06:10 PM »
I have this McLeod billet steel flywheel.   Got a few flash rust places on it, looks like some WD and some scotch brite would fix it.  I'll take $175 + shipping for it.

You wanted a 428 balance wheel.  This one is not.

There was quite a bit of mallory metal in the crank. The aluminum flywheel has a lot of holes drilled around the edge of one side. I thought it was likely internally balanced. It has the PI damper that looks like a 427 damper but with chamfered edges and timing marks.

Could be anything, but your wanted ad said a 428 flywheel.  This one is 0 balance.

I have a similar McLeod flywheel that I bought for my 59s 428CJ.. It came with a bolt on counterweight with 2 countersunk Allen head screws to attach the supplied counterweight. I just assumed that was how all the later McLeod flywheels were, both my FE and SB Ford aluminum flywheels also came with the weigh and screws in the box. Years ago, my McLeod 428 flywheel had the imbalance build into the flywheel, rather than a bolt on counterweight. Or is the current 390 and 428 flywheel identical, except if you request a 428 flywheel, they throw the counterweight in the box, and leave it out otherwise.

I did indeed. I know most simply use a bolt on weight for use with the 428. I didn't see it until I got home from church this morning. It is what it is.
