Spring Pressure for SFT Break In

I will be using an old Crane Fireball 294 I used to run 20 years ago in a new build. I do not have matched lifters so will use new & follow normal cam break in procedures.

Is it worth swapping on some old worn out 80lb on the seat valve springs I have for this process or will 120 on the seat be fine?

I'll let the smarter guys chime in on answers, but I love that cam! I used one for almost 25 years in my Highboy. Very torquey and has a solid midrange. If I could find an NOS one, I'd grab it up in a second!

I aim for 100 lbs or less seat and under 300 lbs open.

I think the open pressure is what matters.  I don't think the seat pressure matters. I do agree that under 300 lbs is a good number for open pressure for flat tappet break in.

I remember it ran pretty well all those years ago with a worn out engine, horrific exhaust manifolds & single pipe. Really interested to see how it goes with a fresh build & better bits & pieces.
