I have a new fe build that I'm using the original dual point mechanical advance ford distributor.  I replaced the points with pertronix ignitor. The engine runs poorly..won't Rev past 4k or so. Has anyone had probs with this unit?

The Pertronix is a switch, on or off.
Would have no effect on rpm level.
There are different Pretronix ignitions also, like I, II.
Some with rev limiters. Does yours?
How is it wired into the car?
I always remove the pink wire and run just straight 12 volt or Batt voltage to the ignition.

No Rev limiter. But I am using a resistor to the coil. Maybe it's the problem?

So I went hit refresh on the Pertronix.
Me thinks the resistor to the coil is causing you the grief.
Good grounds and solid connections make for trouble free motoring.

I ran the Pertronix several years and liked it.  I always used their Flamethrower coil (internally ballasted) so that I didn't need a resister. Years ago I found out the hard way that some coil makes don't last long without a resister.

low voltage will make engine die , or it did when my new , rebuilt alternator was no good .
