You can convert the old time fuel injection systems to electronic (EFI), and they will work great.  I did it with a Hilborn setup for an SOHC.  Idled beautifully with a couple of big cams, and made over 900 HP.

You need to take the following steps:
- Remove the mechanical injector nozzles and injector tubing, and machine the cast injector base for electronic injectors.
- Make up some fuel rails to mount on the tops of the injectors.
- Tap each cylinder below the butterfly for a vacuum fitting, and run all 8 of them into a common box or manifold.  This is required for the MAP input to the EFI system.
- Work out where to put a throttle position sensor on one of the throttle shafts.
After that, you just have to hook up your fuel, MAP and throttle position sensors to the EFI system you select.  I used a FAST XFI system, but any decent EFI system should work.  It was a great project, and gave excellent results.
