Fan Shroud for 66 Galaxie w/352
« on: June 21, 2021, 03:10:51 PM »
Has anyone used Rhino Fabrication fan shrouds?  What might my best option be for putting a shroud on my car?  I'm hoping that getting a shroud back on it will prevent it from vapor locking in hot weather/slow speed operation.

A shroud won't do anything for vapor lock or carb percolating.  For the carburetor, use an insulating gasket set or an insulating spacer, like wood or phenolic or even plastic.  Look at the routing for your fuel line to make sure it's not touching anywhere on the engine.

The fuel line isn't making contact anywhere and the only time it gives trouble is in idle speed type driving.  Being a convertible, it gets requested for parade duty from time to time, and that's when it acts up.

Okay, so the fuel line isn't touching anywhere.  Do you have an insulator under the carburetor?  Also, what is your base timing?

Is your engine temp going up in hot weather, slow speed operation ??

Would this shroud fit your vehicle ??

I think that one is too big.  This is the link to the one that is supposed to fit. https://rhinofabrication.com/product/rf504/  I was just curious about the quality or if there is a better source.

As was mentioned earlier make sure you ignition timing is advanced enough, late timing can cause excessive underhood temps.

Will do on checking the timing. The new shroud showed up today, but it looks like I'll have to make a couple of rails to get it mounted. When I had the radiator rebuilt a few years ago, the driver's side rail was installed upside down.
