I can't locate my performance manual and I am setting the distributor in. To my recollection is was about 6 degree BTC.  Can anyone this?

The book may say 6 (or even 8), however your engine and therefore you will be a lot happier with 14-16. Just my 2 cents!

I thought it was originally set at 16 or 18 and 38 degrees to total at 2700 rpm. Been a while.

Factory settings are 6 degrees BTC.   For others than may need help.  I set it at 10 degrees.

If you are happy with the curve in your distributor then just put a 38* mark on your balancer.  Then with your timing light hooked up bring your RPM's up to 3K and make a any adjustments....JMO

Hi Bill:
I posted a request for factory initial timing according to Shelby spec. I remembered the factory decal was still on the head and used it for reference. The original decal on the head is showing 6 degrees BTC. However, to drop the distributor for initial start up timing I used the CJ spec and turned the damper to 10 degrees BTC and dropped the distributor in on number one.
