Hmmm, I was always looking at the ceramic coated ones, so maybe that's why they always said 'not available'? Still, it says "contact Customer Service" for an order, so I still wonder if they are available. Those REF's don't look so costly now! Thanks for the link, FElony.

I did notice that Summit and Hooker do not list 6375's. It could be that Jegs has a limited number of pieces "on hand", and are trying to get a premium before they vanish altogether.

Doug's Headers does have the #627 with crossover tubes and 2" primaries. Still not cheap, but available. Hey, don't you own that company? Anyway, what are you running now?

I just have the Super Competition 6114's. Fine for your typical street car, but I'm in need of something more full race oriented and trying to avoid making a set.

Or maybe see what part number Thor bought from Mad Dog and what he had to modify. I wonder if Hedman still makes the FE Husler.

Thanks for the pictures Afret, (except for the ones of me lol)

Gosh, Dale, I was impressed to see you standing upright. All the pics circulating social media show you passed out curbside or on a park bench. I am in wonder that Earl and Thor will admit to knowing you personally on a Forum with millions of viewers. Kind fellows, they.  8)

I am so twitchin' I amaze me sometimes.  https://www.hedman.com/mustang-headers?cpable=1&ProductAttributeID2%5B1000126%5D=3536&

Listed as a street/strip headers, but are 2-inch primary. Shows for 390/428 "High Riser". Hedman needs a phone call. 18-gauge.

Edit: Better selection with bigger tubes towards bottom:  https://www.hedman.com/drag-racing-headers?cpable=1&&YearID=1969&MakeID=54&ModelID=688&CID=428

I didn't know Hedman offered headers with that large of a primary tube. They definitely seem directed specifically at race cars. But according to the website, they cause cancer in California. I don't live there, so I should be ok 8)

I think the larger question is whether those headers work with trailer hitches. You may have to do some research.

It was still early in the day but I was actually being propped up with a stick. Earl is an innocent bystander while Thor has had some experience in dealing with my bad behaviour. Either way, I think they both invoked the plausible denial clause in our friendship contract.

I have the 85150 2 1/8 headers on mine. Actually fit pretty good with the flanges cut. They hang pretty low.

The only friendship contract I have these days is a promise that I notify people after I'm dead so they can descend upon my property and pillage it shitless.

I have smashed a few sets of headers myself. Hookers and Mad Dogs are very similar in design and ground clearance. The set of Mad Dogs I bought were custom... I talked him into doing a set of 2 to 2 1/8" step headers. He was reluctant at first, but did do them. I told him I would pay the same amount and that I didn't need any collectors, he agreed. It took a while but they did show up. I have Blue Thunder heads, with the .400 raised exhaust flange and notched shock towers, so was a bit "tighter" fitting, but able to run the Hookers before. The Mad Dog were close, but I think he messed up on at least one tube. No way it was going to fit. I had to cut it and buy a J-bend and change it around some and re-weld it. I modified one other tube slightly. I bought them raw, and after fitting them, had them coated. I think I paid 675 for the headers, and 400 to have them coated including my 4-2-1 collectors, well the 2-1 were already coated so I didn't do those. Definitely less money than Hookers or REF. They worked fine and made good power, until I did a huge wheelie and smashed them on the landing. I tried a set of REF and they didn't fit either. I have a set of 2 1/8" hookers on for the moment, but will be switching back to the REF after I make a new #8 and modify the #4, they do have way more ground clearance.

Here is a file photo from Mad Dog, although these are not step, it is the same header design (like Hooker).

Here they are after coating, laid out, separate.

Here are the REF

Thor, thanks for that excellent post. What was the issue with the REF's? Number 8 looks like it had something to do with the linkage or frame rail, judging by the picture. Was #4 the starter or frame rail? Having to modify a tube or 2 would be fine with me, and gaining ground clearance is pretty valuable. I've switched my thinking to getting raw and fitting them before coating.

Those Mad Dog headers do look like a pretty good alternative to the Hookers.
