Blue thunder 427 MR intake thermostat size?
« on: January 29, 2014, 06:11:13 PM »
I just ordered a blue thunder 427 MR intake and was wondering what size thermostat it calls for?
I currently have the iron 4V intake on my 63 galaxie and it uses the large thermostat housing.
Will this work on my new intake?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks.
I read somewhere that I can still bolt my large thermostat housing with the large thermostat to it?
Is that true?

I believe that that is true - although I've not done so.

I never tried it, but the local Autozone, O'Reilly's, you name it, sell the right one

Look it up for a 73 Ford F100 with a 360

8 bucks and you don't even have to clean it :)

Small thermostat, 66-up type.

Thanks,
I ordered one for a 67 mustang with a 390.
Had a GTA as my first car.  Did not enjoy changing the plugs, but loved the car.
Wish I still had that car. :-(

I just picked up a 60-63 style Flowkooler water pump, $35 Robertshaw 180 deg t-stat, a Champion 3-row, and their aluminum surge tank for my 63.5 390. I am thinking about ordering a BT 427MR 4V intake for it. It sounds like I will need to exchange the t-stat for a different vehicle / size? Whats this about being able to use the larger stock size?

With the stock surge tank, I was able to use the small thermostat with a BT intake that has the small hole.
Required a little rtv to keep the thermostat glued to the surge tank, I let it set up a little prior to install.  No issues.

Thanks Drew, maybe 427 surge tanks were different than 390 surge tanks? Guess we'll see which size the Champion surge tank is when it arrives.

I forgot that I had a Stant SuperStat on the shelf for the stock application and it is MUCH larger diameter than the Robertshaw, so I probably have what I need for the 427MR. I'd have been screwed on the cast iron intake though.
