How severe is this crack in a block?
« on: October 13, 2016, 10:20:27 AM »
There is a 427 center oiler I'm vaguely interested in.  It has a crack according to the seller between the rear water jacket hole and the DS rear upper head bolt hole.  Would a crack like this need to be repaired?  If so, can it be repaired?

I would fix it and I don't think it would be a bad job to fix...

However, that block is RUSTY.  Be on the look out for bad pitting in the cylinders.  A sleeve or two won't hurt anything, but you don't want to get into a spot where every cylinder needs to be fixed some how.

Maybe clean that block really good and check for any other issues before dropping a lot of $ on it.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'd never seen a crack at that location so I wasn't sure if it was a big deal or not.  I think I'll pass on it.  Decent price at $800, but could be a bag of worms rehabbing it back into useable shape.

Where is the block located?
Is there an add for it.

The crossbolt spacers appear to be missing.  That could be an expensive problem to fix  :o
A careful study of failure will yield the ingredients for success.
