So what was a B+M "Hydro-Stick"?  Just a GM 4-speed Hydramatic with a manual valve body?  I realize I'm dating myself here  ;)

Bruce

B&M Hydro-Stick
The name B&M is virtually synonymous with performance automatic transmissions for racing and the street. Founded in 1953 by Bob Spar and Mort Schuman, Bob's brother Don bought out Schuman's share in 1959, and shortly thereafter B&M introduced its famous Hydro-Stick four-speed racing automatic based on GM's Hydra-matic. The manually shifted Hydro-Stick finally solved the remaining problems associated with racing automatics, like keeping the transmission in low gear until the driver chose to shift, launched B&M to fame and forever gave automatic transmissions a place in drag racing history (later in the decade the company even experimented with an automatic tranny for Indy cars). Today, B&M transmissions, shifters, and torque converters are staples of the street and strip.--Matt King

Yeah, that's a bummer about Hubert :(

While technically there's nothing "automatic" about a Lenco, they can be air-shifted with electronically controlled solenoids. Still, they are pretty cool when shifted manually, and I don't think a tank could bust one.

A Jerico can be clutchless, clutched or air shifted (in the 5spd clutchless) also, but they are a manual transmission. I somewhat agree on the clutch, Marc. I'll be picking up a Jerico 4spd sometime soon, and whether it's a clutched or clutchless, I'll use the clutch just because I prefer to. If you're good, there's no reason somebody can't shift just as fast using a clutch.

Not my fastest shifts here because I was still breaking in my newly rebuilt toploader. Now that it's broken in, I can shift without letting off the gas and the engine doesn't have time to "rev".

Yeah agree and I'm not downplaying any way to get to the line.
They all have their merits.
Just think it's "interesting" that some say "no autos" when they're sportin' a Lenco.
If you have a clutch then you can say all you want.

No doubt that after seeing that video, Joel will now want to swap in an automatic ;D

I think this was all covered in the "power loss" part of the diagram I posted  :)

I did, however, find this quote in the video interesting, "entirely automatic and requires no skill on the drivers part". Just sayin ;D ;D

Well, there you go.  For a guy like me, who can miss a shift with a 2-speed automatic  ::), no skill required on the driver's part sounds very appealing  ;D ;D
