C-6 Dowel - Crack
« on: September 01, 2014, 08:52:29 PM »

Hopefully you can see the crack at the dowel in my C-6 bellhousing.  Is it ruined?  Fixable?

I THOUGHT I had the camera set to 'macro', but I guess I didn't.   :-\

Unless the dowel is really loose in the hole, I'd use it as is.  Its for alignment only; there's no force on it once the trans is bolted up to the block.

I agree with Jay.  You should have no troubles running the trans as-is.  My guess is that somebody at one time pried the trans off (due to stuck pins), and the bending cracked the boss.

I have seen that a lot in cases where someone pulled the trans on the dowels with bolts. Even seen them gone completely, in that case I wrap some foil around the bolts to center it. Yes it is crude I agree but if the housing is junk anyhow, why not? I ran a service van like that for 225000 miles and sold it to someone else still going.
