I would suppose more than a few have 3.78 stroke mills

What Would the various FE heads do on the above ??

Take a gander through the dyno results page.  One of my 390’s made 540 hp with 10:1 compression, hydraulic roller, Performer RPM, and TFS heads.

From a factory head aspect, it took fully ported CJ heads, a Tunnel Wedge, a point more compression, and a cam that was about 18° bigger on duration to match it.

We did a 390 engine about a year and a half ago that was 397 cubes, 3.78 stroke, iron C4AE-G heads, single carb, .570 lift cam, and 10.45 to 1, that made 622 hp on Bischoff's dyno.  I reckon it just depends on how you go about it, and how you plan to use it.

I think this is just another no brainer deal with the TFS heads a they have as small or smaller port size as any of the other heads, and marginally larger than ported OEM head that would be anywhere close to them.  For a “small” FE, seems they’re the clear choice.  The only thing I’d ponder is a TFS port made up to support a smaller 2.09 and throat/bowl size that may better match the 390 bore and cubes, but not very likely to happen and I have no clue if its really necessary (just looking at all the stroker small blocks making big power with 2.08s)
