Yea honestly I talked to him twice on the phone, about a couple different combos, but when I ordered thought I was clear about what I had, and unfortunately did not write down the specs he said at the time but I feel like he possibly ground me the smaller cam we talked about.....I will probably sell it and get another.

I am still waiting on my block back from the machine shop so thought I would have all the Fe gurus here review my cam specs. I Ordered a custom hyd roller from cam research since the are local to me and I like to keep local guys in business too...going in a 428 .040 over with a stroker kit from Brent lykins, trick flow heads, rpm manifold, hooker headers

Going to be driving a 67 Galaxie 3.89 rear, street cat, power brakes, converting it to a 5 speed tkx

Thanks for the advice guys, Hopefully I can get it torn down and inspected this weekend, and I will plan on just taking it to the machine shop for a cleaning and new cam bearings.

So to be clear I'm definitely taking it down,  I just want to know if I should clean it out myself and I can reuse the cam bearings,  or should I go all out and take it to a machine shop and have it tanked and new cam bearings installed

Hey all,
Picked up a project 390 this weekend.  New build, the guy I bought it from ran with a small cam for less than 500 miles, wanted a bigger cam and it failed on break in, pretty common these days, but I've never dealt with it.  Gonna start taking it down this next weekend.

Can this be flushed out satisfactorily at home?  if the cam bearings look ok can they be run or will there be too much metal embedded in them.  What do you guys usually do?

Specs are pretty decent on the parts, I'm ahead on that even if the block would be toast. It has a balanced reciprocating assembly with JE forged pistons, supposed to be at zero deck height, 10.5 to one, Promax heads, Harland sharp rockers, new water pump, hoping to salvage it to make a decent runner

Thanks for the help guys, I was looking at the Edelbrock website for specs on carb spacing but couldnt find the actual numbers,  and "fits most" usually means fits everyone but me with my luck, LOL.

Hi Guys,
Been lurking a long time here soaking up info, finally putting together my first FE and have an intake question.
I have Jay's Book but can't find it at the moment, but on the Edelbrock 2x4 I know you have to use their carbs because of the spacing. My question is I may want to try a EFI like sniper in the future, I am guessing there would be enough room on the edelbrock for the throttle bodies, but if anyone knows for sure I would like to know.

There is one for sale for a good price near me right now, so just checking before I buy.

Like he said, pull the plugs, and wd-40 before you try and turn it over,  A little  shot down the intake runner and even pull the valve covers and hit the valves with some to dissolve varnish, a little down the pushrods to help the lifters move too.  Turn it over by hand a couple times to see how it feels and with plugs out and the valve covers off you can watch to see how all the valves move etc. Better than sticking it in the car and firing it up with a stuck valve or finding the camshaft was already flattened.  Change the oil after turning it over good and letting all the wd work its way down.

Well its going depend on a few things.
Aluminum or Iron heads first off
Cam specs
Car weight
Gearing
Ignition timing and curve
Altitude
Those are a few of the Big ones, Smarter people will be along to chime in but if you can give them some of that info it will help them

Funny, the last Big Block Mopar I built back in the late 90's for my Roadrunner I used Probe pistons,  Broke it in, ran great, really revved with those light piston!  Then I decided to put my exhaust on and run it on the street......Hey whats that noise?????? Tore the thing apart with the help of a very good mechanic I worked with at the time.....found nothing, put it back together still there.....Mine was present at idle only though, and the thing ran strong till I sold the car a couple years later.

Awesome, can't wait to see some results, and the follow up BBM vs TFS as well.  Plus any details about fitting the TFS heads, regarding the rocker arms/pushrods etc.
