FE Technical Forum / Re: 2.5" vs 3" Exhaust and Muffler Options
« on: September 23, 2021, 03:33:08 PM »
FWIW,
We ran 3" from the headers back to the mufflers, then mandrel bent 2.5" over the axle on our 69 Mach just as 427LX has suggested.  We are running Dynomax UltraFlo mufflers which I really like.  Might be a good option for you to consider.

This is behind a 500hp street CJ.  I can try uploading a video if that sounds like it might be helpful for you in making your decision.

Thanks for sharing Brent!

Any chance you'd be willing to share some of the lower RPM torque numbers?  Curious how a relatively small cubic inch engine with mostly stock heads did down low with all that camshaft.

Interested in your opinion on how something like that would be for street manners if it was plugged into a typical street/strip car (stick shift; 3.91 gears, 3600lbs, something like that)?

Thanks again for the great write up and sharing some of your hard-earned knowledge.

I'm going to go with 463 HP / 427 TQ

Curious to see where it noses over, should be interesting.

Thanks for posting.  Nearly identical numbers and in the same spots compared to the stock rebuild in our family Mach 1 from years ago.

I'd have to dig out the dyno sheets, but it was interesting to see that in our case (25 years ago) it was run with both dyno headers and CJ Mustang exhaust manifolds with very minimal losses switching back to the manifolds FWIW for those curious (I think it was under 10 hp loss).  Likely due to the relatively low peak RPM needing less airflow?

Dad always said it was a "great dump truck motor".  You had the same comment which made me laugh and prompted me to post and share!
