FE Technical Forum / Re: Need Advice on Fox Body FE Project
« on: September 23, 2022, 10:21:52 AM »
We recently did a 79 Monty, the other big block.Used a lot of Team Z stuff such as....K member-nice piece, used 2 inch spacers to keep most of the motor under the hood, glass 4 inch cowl hood, can't recall vendor.Maximum Motorsports bump steer, camber caster plates.Ford racing BBF 460 swap motor mounts use FE rubber insulators if that helps.through floor sub frame connectors-super sturdy, apparently Z makes em for Fairmont as I actually had to trim some off.A little cumbersome under foot for street. Battle Boxes for rear torque boxes.Quick Performance custom rear housing, narrow as possible. We got 28 by 10.5 drag radials under it with no tubs at all but barely get them on without dropping suspension.Team Z adjustable anti roll setup really helps 60 ft,remove 1 bolt for street. The list is long.

Thanks! I did see somewhere that the flywheel on the GT was different that standard 390 but can't seem to find it again.

Let's say a 68,69 Fairlane,Torino S code GT 4 speed car...What would you expect to receive, engine and trans wise, with the GT option that would be different than a standard 390?

Success!! The jack stands were a great idea. Don't really need any more torch damage to the concrete shop floor.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Flywheel starter ring gear
« on: May 25, 2022, 07:28:12 AM »
The subject is a 184 tooth ring gear replacement on an original 390 flywheel.I have done a few of these on other flywheels but never a 390.So far I've heated the gear to 400 degrees in the oven.It almost goes but not quite. The flywheel OD is 14.250 and ring ID is 14.220.You would think at that temp it would expand enough to slide on but no.I now have the flywheel in the deep freeze but doubt that will help. Any ideas?  Thanks!

These are pretty handy for the rope trick....

https://www.amazon.com/Molding-Installation-Automotive-Windshield-Included/dp/B08YHC81CT/ref=sr_1_31_sspa?keywords=windshield+installation+tools&qid=1653479787&sr=8-31-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExUVlGTE5JSFRXTjNBJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjAyMDc5M0tCSzdMMDQ5REdYRSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzc4NjQxMVBHQUFUSDNMVTRIViZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX210ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

The key is to keep the rope from twisting.Lay it in the groove with the grain of the rope as straight as possible so it doesn't curl up when pulling. If it gets extra hard to pull,STOP and start over or you could end up breaking the glass. It's really fairly easy. You can do it!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / toploader ID tag
« on: March 23, 2022, 10:19:28 AM »
I'm in the process of detailing a toploader and wouldn't mind loosening or removing the ID tag to do a decent job.I am assuming that it's a drive rivet holding the tag.Any thoughts on removing it? Was the tag originally bare steel or zinc plated?   Thanks!

3Bond 1211 used for sealing 2 stroke crank cases will withstand direct contact with gas, alcohol and diesel. I also used it on a 2 stroke on fuel and even though it's not approved for it, the nitro didn't seem to both it any. At least not for the duration between tear downs anyway. It's pretty good stuff but it's fairly expensive.
2 stroke on nitro?? I want to know more! My guess is snow machine but maybe boat, Kart, chainsaw???

Give this stuff a try.Definitely worth a shot. Put it in a radiator hose, not the overflow tank. Used it in the grandson's car.Still running 40K miles and 3 years later.Never plugged anything up like the doubters like to think. Heater works normally,no overheat in the summer.

Thanks guys! Looks like any of these will work. I guess it depends on what's available locally. The surface to be sealed is a machined flanged tongue and groove deal with a lot of screws so I should be OK.

The problem...Have two halves of a cast aluminum fuel tank held together by screws. The original sealant was a hard drying semi clear stuff that was also very effective adhesive. Any ideas??

SRV and Robert Cray...bluesy stuff but really everything mentioned above. Not a big country fan but there are many fantastic musicians in the genre.Vince Gill comes to mind. These days, silence is my friend due to tinnitus, probably due to standing too close to a giant stack of Marshalls at concerts. ZZ Top comes to mind...

If you can achieve silence with tinnitus, you're one up on me.  My ears have been ringing for 20 years.

No silence in my ears.Just don't want much other noise.
