Private Classifieds / For sale - Holley HP series 1000 vac sec
« on: June 30, 2012, 02:45:36 PM »
This came off my 489 prior to the EFI.  It was a sweetheart of a carb on there.  Neat setup, 1000 HP but vac sec.

It also has a Barry Grant billet base plate on the bottom, and comes with a dual feed line and I throw in a free XRP liquid filled gauge that reads zero when hot LOL

Its been sitting for a couple years, so I would absolutely kit it, but it ran great when taken off.

225.00 plus the ride

Member Projects / Baby FE build - 71 F-100
« on: June 26, 2012, 07:43:35 AM »
I caved and decided to spend a little money and build a 418

- Same block, .040 overbore, torque plate honed, square decked .015 cut
- SCAT 3.98 crank, for 9.97:1 compression, .010 deck clearance, internally balanced
- Les Schmader is going to port the D2TE-AA heads, gasket match to 1247, 2.09/1.66 undercut stem valves, light retainers, 110 closed, 280 open, end stands, Viton seals.  He says to expect 270 cfm
- Worked Edelbrock RPM intake (off my 489 from its pre-EFI days) and a 1 inch spacer blended to match the intake
- 750 Holley (although I may try my 1000 HP series vac sec off the Mustang for fun)
- Same 270H cam but straight up instead of 4 degrees advanced, hoping it'll make power to 5200  ::) with the head work and good intake
- Hedman Headers
- Recurved Duraspark
- 3 inch mandrel bent duals with 50 series Deltaflows

The truck has 33 inch tall tires, a 4 speed, and 3.50s, it weighs 4100 lbs, thats why I stayed with the mild cam.

Should be a hell of a difference from the 8:1, Street Dominator unported combo it is replacing.

Although in its defense, that motor was sure an overachiever, it did everything well for years and ran hard even though it shouldn't have LOL

I built it in either 89 or 91, I cant remember and it was clean as a whistle, no blowby or ridge, bearings still look new, but it was 8:1 and .130 in the hole .....

Going in the 71, which is currently down to a bare frame getting some shiny back on it :)

Stock style rods, 4.09 bore, nothing heavy

Does one brand internally balance easier (less heavy metal)?

157
Understand odds are against me, but does anyone have an internally balanced 428 crank left over from an old project?

Considering using one in my 390, hoping one of the big inch guys outgrew one.

The other alternative is a used 428 flywheel for an 11 inch clutch if any used are out there, then I could use a local crank.

This wont be a big power motor, low 400's, so considering some options.  trying to keep this 390 as low budget as possible

FE Technical Forum / 390/410 piston ID?
« on: June 05, 2012, 08:05:53 PM »
Anyone know what piston a P-1513 is? Looks like stock replacement. 4 reliefs with center dish.

I am guessing truck or 410, sitting over .100 in the hole with a 390 crank

Clearly stamped on piston top, along with a logo sort of like a crown on its side

Thanks in advance

I am freshening up my 390 in my F-100.  Actually more of a reseal and blueprint with a little head work.

I have a 1247 gasket matched Edelbrock RPM off the Mustang with some additional rubbing on the shelf, and an untouched Holley Street Dominator on the truck now.

Jay's testing shows them pretty close to each other at WOT, and the truck runs great now, but wondering if anyone thinks I'd see a gain with the RPM, not just WOT, but in any situation.

Here's the specs on the motor

9:1 (estimated, will soon be seen, been 20 years since I had the heads off) 390 + .040
C8AE-H heads, currently unported, going to do a gasket match, bowl cleanup, and modern valves this time
Comp 280H hyd flat tappet
Duraspark
750 Holley vac sec
Headers and 3 inch mandrel bent duals to rear bumper

4100 lb 4x4 truck
4 speed, 3.50 gears and 32 inch tall tires

Not expected to tow much if ever, maybe the Mustang on an open trailer for a special treat  8)

I am leaning toward the RPM, but I have been pretty happy with the SD on this motor.  What's everyone think?

Since I swapped to EFI, I no longer need the distributor from my 489.

175.00 plus the ride from 68133 can get everything below

- Vacuum advance Mallory Unilite, module was replaced in 2008 or so - Ready to run, from memory, advance curve was 22 mechanical all in by 2700-ish. Cap and rotor have very few miles on them
- Spare NEW module - I bought the backup module as a spare before I realized the original issue was too much voltage, and never needed it, new in the box
- Mallory Power filter - Plugs in line to the distributor to protect from surges, I made a small bracket and used to bolt it to the center v/c bolt
- A set of new FE 7 mm black plug wires for electronic ignition (missing the coil wire) bought to diagnose a miss on my F100
- Spare good cap

If everything was new, its about 375.00 worth of parts, ready to run, and solid known history. The Mustang runs a TFI distributor now for the EFI and my F-100 runs a recurved Duraspark, just dont have any use for it.

Pleasure meeting you Chad, and I LOVE the 64.  I think you are going a great direction with it.

Here is the valve seal company we talked about.    http://www.valveseal.com/v-high%20perfor.html

Depending on what size your guides were machines to, I'd expect you need a VS-373, VS-375 or VS-377

I forgot to ask if you had worked the curve in that Mallory distributor, but if you haven't, the combination of an RPM intake and a quick timing curve could make a hell of a difference, may want to consider it when you do the valve seals
