FE Technical Forum / 427 SOHC street cruiser HP estimates
« on: July 03, 2012, 09:20:10 PM »
so if you purposely built a low compression mild cam Cammer with small carbs , just what kind of HP would someone expect to make with a combo like that ??.... we're talking street cruiser , will never go to the track or run hard type build , just cool factor and cruising reliabilty not trying to get the most and maybe even the least

reason for question .... my brother has been sending me pict of a black 63 galaxy all aluminum cammer for months now , I ask him what kind of cammer is it ??... who's block , who's heads , ect ect but know one know's any info on the car except its a 427 cammer there for a dyno session and tune the carbs for street cruising ..... any how , the shop finally gets it on the dyno and tunes the air fuel ratio and was very surprised it only made 380 rear wheel HP with this massive engine , it ran good and smooth but if looks could kill this thing made 750 HP ..... so is 380 rear wheel HP on par for a mild cammer build ??

thanks , Eric

was wanting to run some original valve covers for my 63 that don't have breather holes and not sure if I want to cut up these valve covers for breathers to run my pan-e-vac kit ...... anybody ever run your system from the oil fill tube ???..... if so how did it work out and what breather did you use to fit the fill tube ..... I was thinking of using the oil fill tube and one breather and one hose running to the back of the engine to a Y before going to each header collector , any thoughts appreciated

FE Technical Forum / solid lift street cam reliability questions
« on: February 11, 2012, 12:59:49 AM »
Jay , do you think a Comp 306S will be street reliable ??.... as in no valve train type problems for a couple thousand miles .... I have Dove rockers and stands ,contemplating a smaller cam than the current drag race Comp FB304B for street .... I'm worried about having strong performance with good reliabilty and wanting to re-use my Schubek solid lifters so no roller cams for me  ... was also considering a 294S , I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be happy with the performance of a 282S ... the 306 is not a whole lot smaller at .050 than the FB304B and has more lift than the FB304 ..... how much power loss between 282S , 294S and 306S on a 416 ??

thanks for imput as always , Eric
