Hi guys,
Is the fuel pump eccentric on the cam essential if I am planning to use an electric fuel pump on an EFI system?
Reason I ask is I have just installed a Comp cam and am using a Cloyes gear set. The gear pin sit just proud of the cam gear and does not allow the tab on the two piece eccentric to sit in place.
Should I shorten the pin so that the eccentric will fit?
Or, should I shorten the pin so that the cam bolt washer sits flat against the gear and forget the eccentric altogether?
Sorry if this is a stupid question. I've tried searching and googling with no result.
Cheers

Ditch that two piece eccentric, those things are junk. Just shorten the pin and make sure the washer on the cam bolt overlaps it. You don't need the eccentric at all if you are running an electric pump.

Excellent, the answer to the option I was hoping for.
Thanks Jay, much appreciated!!

Hyjack, sort of. Who made a FE or? eccentric with only a hole for the cam bolt? I accedently mailed one off, he is going to try to drill the dowl hole. I know it was FE size because I had it stacked in my hand with two other bad used pieces. When the buyer contacted me I rememberd using something like it. It does not have an indention or stamped slot for the dowl. It was in my old stash so it is at least 25 years old.
Any idea?

The one piece eccentric is a Ford part. I don't know if it has ever been done aftermarket.

Kinda sorta. Ford racing makes new ones now for both the small block and big block guys. The small block eccentrics are available with both 3/8" and 7/16" holes.

Do you remember any looking like the one hole pictured? I am pretty sure that was in the summer of 1990, back when I only had one FE. That would be the only reason for me to buy a new one.

All the ones I've seen have two holes....one for the cam dowel and one for the bolt.

Anybody used one of these with any trouble? I have one in my pile of parts to be installed on my 428 project. Good idea or bad?
