60069's are fully assembled heads for flat tappet hydraulic cams. 60065's are fully assembled heads for hydraulic roller cams. The 60065's offer .700" lift capability and dual springs instead of the single springs and .600" lift capability on the 60069's. As far as I can see, all else is equal. The difference in $ is 20 buck apiece. Will a flat tappet cam with proper beak in procedures and a little zinc in the oil survive the extra spring pressure of the 60065's? I went to Edelbrock's site but there was no comparative data (or I missed it?). I'd like the capability for .700" lift down the road.

Wonder what the open pressure would be. Depending on the flat tappet cam 350lbs to no more then 400lbs.
-
Just wondering where you got buy them from? If you don't mind me asking I bought mine brand new from auto zone for $1250.00 for the pair

Thanks for the input. If the heads are equal except for the springs ( they look to be) think I'm leaning toward the 60069's to be on the safe side. I can then upgrade the spring package to match if I go to a roller down the road. Added expense for a new cam and valvetrain isn't as important as decent heads right now, they're a must to get where I want to be eventually.
As far as pricing goes, 60069's are $809 and change at Summit's site on line. Haven't bought yet, but thanks for the tip. I do intend to shop around-

Isn't there a combustion chamber difference? I haven't looked for a while, but that's what
I had in my head.

Chamber photos of both pieces look the same. Both measure up at 72cc, with 2.090" intake and 1.660" exhaust valves.
I ended up ordering the more conservative set (60069's) with no risk, will get a chance to look them over tomorrow. At this time I think the only real difference is the spring package tailored to end use.

Definitely shop around guys. Autozone wanted $864 and told me they couldn't get them, they were absolutely clueless. Summit wanted $809. My local Advance auto parts wanted $799.99, brought them to Erie and they took 10% off because I asked them to. Bottom line, they are nice pieces but the finish work is not overly impressive, there are a couple of wild die grinder skips and some flash to clear. I will definitely be doing some cleanup and de-burring before I build, but for the $ to a guy without a machine shop you can't expect more.....
Once I get the rest from Survival I'll get this thing going. I am patterning the build after the low buck 390 in Car-Craft, we'll see how it goes.

Good luck with your build ..Bud

Appreciate that Bud. My son's a mechanical engineer, he's chompin' at the bit to build the FE with me and take the 5 hour run to Detroit to cruise Woodward. Got a daughter who's dating a guy that brews at a couple of our local small specialty breweries. He's working on an IPA with Galaxy hops, gonna call it the Galaxie 500. The batch is in the can right now. This thing is definitely a family affair.

Wow, Galaxie 500 beer! Can I order a case? :D

Heck, I can beat that price. I can't get them either and I'll sell them for just $300 8)

Don't know about quantity but the quality is guaranteed 8). Consider this a reservation of "some quantity". Right now we're looking at what we can do with the label......
Thanks for the offer CJ, I sense that you are a shrewd businessman ;). Actually, you needed to talk to the guy behind the counter to get the full effect.

I new i should have thought of a different name for my home brew kahlua , amaretto and blacberry brandy and cherry brandy .... Bud oh and attempting to brew anisette ? ?

Have a beer for all of us ..Bud

Well, I know we've drifted off tech a might here (sorry Jay ::)). Gotta say Bud, your home brew sounds way more stout... I talked to Barry today, hope to see my stuff ready to go by the end of next week. Need something to bolt these heads to..... Len

Should come out to the Northwest.... Oregon has the most micro brews per capita out of any state!!! I too brew my own beer. I make 5 gallons at a time. Making beer is kind of like building an FE.... You can make it what you want LOL
-
Don't know how many gallons are "cooking" on this end, but I'll be finding out pretty soon. The northwest sounds great but right now don't have the luxury of time on my side. I am planning on a trip to Beaver Springs PA here in late April though ::)....... Hope the weather holds.

All this technical discussion is making me thirsty!

Me too Tom!!! LOL

Yeah, somewhere along the way "aluminum" head turned into a nice "frothy" head ???. I must, of course, accept full responsibility. So then, it's to the task at hand from here on out.........
