That car is absolutely beautiful!  Wow what a gem   :)

Thanks! Really is a great car.  40 yrs ago was restoring the 66-67 Comets and Fairlanes. It was worth the wait for this one.

I did resize pics but for full view one will have to click on photo.

California black plate on car since day one.

Local shows its surprising how few people actually know what a Cyclone is.
I get comments like:  If that is so original why does it have a aftermarket hood then will argue about it not being orignial.

THe large photo again. Will try to figure out how to get them normal size.

Still trying to post proper size photo's

Been a while and forgot

Member Projects / 57 Yr wait for a Dream Car? 1966 Cyclone GT 390
« on: May 07, 2024, 09:25:17 AM »
Way back in early 1966 I was at a local news stand and spotted a car on cover I thought WOW sure like that one. Turns out it was a 1966 Cyclone GT. As a 9 yr old kid I wanted one some day.  I had 3 different 1967 R code comets and I found a 66 base cyclone just like in ads Red with white interior and white pinstripe but the Unrestored super nice Cyclone GT was very elusive.

July 18th last year I bought this one from Mike Brunson uncle Bob.  Crazy nice well preserved car. So original in fact it is scary.
Since then I have learned history from new with some of that info that came with car. I am now the 4th owner.

Bought new July 27th 1966 by a couple in Dunsmuir CA.  The original owner passed away in late 2014 and the son was executor of estate listed it in a estate sale March 2015.  A local person whom I have been in contact with purchased it then sold it to Bob Brunson. Took me a few years to be able to purchase it after seeing a pic posted by Mike.  Last year while on vacation took a side trip to go look at car. Took a bit to scrape up the $$ but they kindly held it for me.  Great family for sure.  Nice to see the collection they had also.

Over next few days will post more info and photo's.

I have driven it around 1400 miles so far with no issues. All I have done is a NOS set of points and installed new exhaust that came with car. Did a bunch more research on it's history.

So nice to see a total bone stock GT390 and how well it performs. Carb to pan never been messed with. Bob n Mike did install a new water pump but rest as delivered with exception of battery, belts, hoses. Body, Paint, Interior, CHrome, Trim and full drive train have never been touched. Nearly shocking is even all power steering components, tie rods, ball joints, remaining steering part still original to car. A testament to the 56k miles that is fully documented.

Included with car is the Original Window Sticker, Original California Title/Pink slip and ALL registrations from day of purchase 7/27/66. ANother interesting fact is the car showed up here 7/28/23

This is video of it's arrival.

I think Jay Brown also a fan of the '66 Cyclone?

I haven't updated this in quite some time..... feels like we've been making positive progress recently. The engine received a new set of tunnelport heads, these were hand ported by my uncle and look to flow very well. 390cfm on the intake side, 237 on the exhaust. I'll update again when we have this thing on the dyno.

The downtime has allowed me to make some modifications to the car and to take care of some maintenance. I shipped the brakes off to TBM this week to have serviced. Funkhouser Racecars makes Cal-trac lower brackets that relocate the shocks, I got those installed and made some frame mounting points. I have Viking double adjustable shocks on the way to replace the Calvert gas shocks. I'm kicking around the idea of installing a rear anti roll bar, but that's only if we're dealt even more downtime.

Also, the car got to be the feature of my nephews 1st birthday party. Being up on the lift, the car lent itself as a banner hanger for the party  ;D

I like the old Merc in background!   I thought I posted about it but cannot find a post I made. Will start a new thread.

Right now all I have for payment is Venmo unless it's a money wire. To me money wire is the safest.

Although I use Venmo to buy have not taken it as payment but so far I feel it is safe and has worked well for maybe a half dozen times.

See if he will use a money wire.

Inside of bed should be black on your '66

They said that it might only be 60000. Is this true.

Yep right on 60k plus I ordered the 12,000 lb winch.  Truck could not be sold until winch was installed and that took 8 months for it to show up. On window sticker not a after the fact.  I drove it yesterday for first time and it will light em up from a 45-50 mph roll. It was awesome! Only drove 8-10 miles on side streets that were in industrial part of town nothing there.  It was pulling as hard or harder at 80 mph has it was 45-50. Spun from a roll to 80 when I left off.

I must have forgot how to post pics as it says jpeg not allowed.

Got the short block done on the 7.3 IDI turbo diesel engine build - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-96getWjac&t=103s

Hurry and get it on road!  Will you use it to move back to TX?

must be a very short order list. price of diesel may be scaring people away. you did good.

Very long order list in 1st month of order banks opened had 240,000 orders!
Since my dealer has about as good of CSI as one can get they were awarded a what do you need build it now Super Duty order spot.
The GM of dealer asked if I wanted it and I even waited a couple weeks before saying ok.
From date of order to complete ready to ship was only 20 days.  Others have been waiting for orders since last October.

Dealer said any truck combo you want any engine as long as it is Lariat or lesser trim level.

Ordered April 11th Vin on April 13th sent to plant on April 20th then Scheduled for Build April 29th. Truck shows built May 1st this morning I got email from Ford saying truck is built and released from plant awaiting shipment and gave date of June 7th For delivery. Should be close to that. Family vacation June 9th about a 2000 mile trip so will see if it shows in time. Only bad part this trip will be 27 miles of dirt road. (LOL)

F/A me will be picking rocks out of the tire treads . .

Can't wait to see how it does in the 0-60 and 1/8, 1/4 mile. I think it's possible it will run  a 13 second quarter. Fastest factory Super Duty yet?
be good for a 7100 lb truck

Just got word. Truck is built!
Only 18 days from order to build.

I figured the 406 would get ya to click . .

Anyone else take advantage of the new 406 500hp 1200tq in a Regular Cab Pickup?
which of course is the 6.7 HO

I ordered a new 2023 F250 XL Regular Cab 4x4 base model with the 406 HO
Thinking this very well could be a 13 second factory F250?

The new HO is supposed to be only 10% of engine production for the new 2023 F series trucks

Thought about doing a 4x2 but adding 4x4 only around 2500 more and figured it would be needed for traction
My dealer said they could have truck of my choice built in 6 weeks or less and I could order whatever I wanted as long as it was Lariat or under trim.
I ordered with Lightest possible 4x4 and did narrowest tire and tallest gear 3.31 Locking of course.
Did not notice until I got the window sticker it will have manual hubs

Ordered April 11, 2023 it had VIN April 13th and sent to plant in production on April 20th. Build day of April 29th which was Saturday.
Have not verified it was actually built but the KY truck plant has been spot on.

Should  be a great Hot ROD that will tow 20,000 bumper pull and 22,700 on gooseneck 5th wheel which I also ordered along with Camper Special Package.

Should be a fun truck and after selling the F100R this would be great addition.

By early reports 25 MPG could be possible with this combo. Less the 131 lb 12,000 lb factory ordered winch Curb weight expected to be 7011 lbs.
