I sure wish Ford had come up with a better nick name for their new engine. "Godzilla" and now "Megazilla" sound kind of corny. They should have kept to the snake theme.

7.3 Boa Constrictor?

The 580lbs is not a big deal, the latest Evan Smith video had a dyno test of a mild 7.3 with a cam, custom intake and ported heads that made over 600hp.  Brian explained the way the factory rates them and why that 430hp makes over 500 on the dyno with headers. The wilder one with a much bigger cam and compression they did over a month ago was 780hp.

Pretty stout engines.  The narrow size of these would be a pretty simple swap into any old car.

As one who was around at the time, let me assure you that 'Cobra Jet' made me cringe for some time when it first came out. :o

You're probably right but all I can think of when I hear "Godzilla" is some Japanese guy running around in a rubber dinosaur suit stomping on toy buildings. ::) It's just not very original. I do wonder if they had to pay any kind of copyright royalties.

I think they’re riffing on “dinosaur” motors.
I remember 385’s being labeled dinosaurs before the aftermarket explosion of development.

Well, it's better than the "7.3 Liter Mothra" engine!  ;D

Seriously, I don't like "Godzilla" or "Megazilla" either.  That's a Japanese thing.  The Japanese make some great engines, but the 7.3 should be an American thing.

I have always liked the name Cobrajet, but maybe that is because it has been around so long.

I think something with "Thunder" in it would be good for the 7.3, like the old Thunderjet 429 and the Fairlane Thunderbolt?   Thunderclap?  No, no, that's no good.  Sounds like a bad infection.  ::)

I dunno,

Turbo hunter, I think that you are right. Especially since the new engine is considered to be the natural progression of the FE, which is considered the ultimate dinosaur.

If the ECM setup is hot rod friendly, I would love one with some boost in the Mustang (or truck for that matter)

Unfortunately, I tend to be lazy on my own stuff...that guy doesn't pay well LOL   Plus got a BBM block inbound and a 4.375 crank on the shelf, sort of have to use it now, the car see it....

I hope they don't go aluminum block as it would likely push the price way out of bounds.  Doesn't make sense, at all, to tool up an aluminum block just for a crate motor.  I think a CNC head/cam/better rod/higher rpm intake would be about all they'd need to do to sell a bunch of them.

I'm all in on a crate motor at this point, just such a nice all around package, love to put one in an older chassis.

Thunderclap?  No, no, that's no good.  Sounds like a bad infection.  ::)

Random Trivia:
Thunderclaps are the worst types of headaches.  I'd rather have a month-long migraine than 5 minutes of a Thunderclap.  The first time I experienced one, I legitimately thought I was having a stroke.

As for engine names, I've never really been a fan of most.  We have two "Coyote" vehicles as daily-drivers, love 'em, but any time I think of a "coyote" I think of a mangy wild dog making a bunch of noise in my back yard at 3am.  I had a "Trinity" GT500, named after the 1st nuclear bomb test, that one was alright I suppose.

I've always loved "Interceptor" and "Police Interceptor".  Ford must love it too, as they still use it if only for police-only applications.   :D

To keep with the snake theme

Typhon

Typhon. Typhon was a serpentine giant and the most deadly creature in Greek mythology, because in addition to being a monster, he was also a god.Jul 30, 2020

I think Godzilla is appropriate. If you say it in a Japanese dialect, it's Rodzilla, which seems appropriate for an engine destined to be in some hot rods ;D
