Ford Tremor & Eco-Boost V6 vs old Lightnings
« on: August 09, 2013, 11:34:17 AM »
Been locked out of buying anything to replace my Gen 1 Lightning because I hate the long wheelbase's of new trucks and big cabs. The Lightnings performance has spoiled the crap out of me. I need a full size bed/steps sides will not cut it. Checking out the Tremor it is stared by one report to not be as sophisticated as Lightnings when it comes to all the added underpinnings and beefy components that made them what they were, but I can't see FoMoCo not building them with some hard use in mind as with any vehicle from the Galaxie FE Cop Cars to tow package equipped F150s.
It's a ball and spoiler to drive a truck that eats corners and sports cars. I figure that the Tremor will likely be as good as it gets from FoMoco at another shot for a Lightning. Hopefully with all the high tech it will match the performance of the old Lightning (I mean Ford has to remember why the Lightnings handled and not toss those tricks away, unless some dumb-ass upstairs requires it to ride on pillows.)
It's obvious FoMoCo is not to putting SVT Badge's on the Tremor and that kind of bothers me - they make SVT Raptors, so why not 3rd Gen Lightnings???? ...   But if it were a Lightning everyone would expect it to have the power of the top Mustangs and THAT could get hairy.
Was wondering, I drive the Lightning like it was made to be driven and get 11--13mpg around town and maybe a bit better on the hwy where I cruise upwards of high 70s, what ever the posted speed limit and add 10mph. Nobody really drives 60 on a hwy do they?
Im thinking HP requires fuel and hard driving hard eats fuel. Im betting when the Ecoboost is pushed it will fall into the same mileage as a Lightning.   The Tremor uniquely gets 4.10 gears like the Gen1s and an electrically controlled locker (sounds like that will last a long time =  NOT!  and be cheap/easy to repair NOT!    Another "Truck Negative" that bothers me is I routinely drive over and against curbs by accident or on purpose -- it's a dam truck!   -- I'd hate to think about getting a $500+ bill for a wrecked 20" rim....
BTW some guy looked me up yesterday and seriously wants to buy my Lightning, his offer is within 25% of what I bought it for when it was two years old... You can't loose on Ford Muscle -- PERIOD
