Saw a carbon fiber hood for my Mustang. $1300 + shipping! Yikes.
I do wonder how much weight was lost compared to sheet metal. Was it say 300 pounds? 500 pounds?

The weight loss is quite a bit more the three or four hundred.
I don't remember exactly but in the late 70's early 80's we switched from fiberglass body to CF on our blown alcohol funny car.
With the glass it would take one man at each corner of the body to move it around.
With the carbon I could stand in the middle under the roof and move the body myself.
Not cheap at the time but the weight loss helped us hit the 200 mph in the quarter verses the 195 to 197 mph we couldn't seem to get past.

Thanks.
Yet, I wonder if the cost and weight savings for a streeter was worth it, save for the bling factor. I would have saved all that CF for a F/C body (as you did) or other true race car. To each their own I guess.

yeah
My memory isn't as good as I would like but it seems like I remember the body was over $5,000 at the time.
With inflation would may be around $30,000 today.
As far as I am concerned that is way to much for a street car, but that's just me.

Sure would be nice if the price of carbon fiber parts eventually come down to reasonable levels.
