My in car headers won't clear the Dyno frame. I know Jay tested truck headers in his book. What should I be looking to buy? 1966-1976 F-100 352-390? I would appreciate some info as the engine is already on the Dyno. Thanks, Chuck

FE Technical Forum / Modifying solid roller lifter

I checked oil pressure today (80PSI) and confirmed the lifters are not sending oil to the pushrods (oiling through pushrods). BAM lifters, and others, have suggested using a Dremel tool to create a path between the large and small oil holes. I know I can't do that consistently. I'm going to try to convince my machinist do do the job precisely. How to do it and how much to cut is the question. BAM sent me a link to a guy in Australia cutting them .080" wide and .002 deep using, what I think is, an end mill. DART has a Tech page suggesting using a .080 radius (not sure what that means) and .020" deep. It seems to me that those three methods would yield significantly different oil flow to the pushrods. I need enough top end oiling but do not want to flood the top end.
Any insights, ideas, suggestions, or experiences would very helpful. Thanks, Chuck (S)

I'm doing some advance planning regarding cooling. What is everyone using for aggressive street car that works well? Car is 1966 Cyclone, 462, TFS heads, 10.4:1,RPM intake, solid roller cam. Is there anything that work in a near OEM radiator size (the car is too nice to cut on). Two row double pass, 3 row, electric fan(s), custom shroud, etc. All input is appreciated. Chuck (S)

Barry, Thanks for the additional information. I ordered 3/8 .141 wall from Smith Brothers this morning. On a side note, when double checking everything before ordering, I spoke with the people at BAM lifters about cup size. They said it is some special design allowing the use of 5/16 or 3/8 ball ends. I'm ready to order pushrods and I want to order 3/8". Block deck is 10.150" and square, heads are TFS un-milled, HS rockers (ball and ball oil through pushrod), BAM solid roller lifters, intake is ED RPM. The pushrod hole in the intake is .625" which leaves .125 in all directions with a 3/8" pushrod. I think the pushrods will clear the intake. However, I'd really appreciate those with a similar build to share your experience using 3/8 pushrods.

I'd also like input on wall thickness for the 3/8" pushrods as well as input on the oil hole size in the pushrod (restricted or not). My instincts are saying not to restrict but I'd like your input on the question.

In the instructions it says lateral clearance should be ".008-.012 bolt to bolt". Does that mean move every thing in one direction until against the stand, then measure at the stand in the other direction?
Am I correct in assuming that HS has shims of various thickness' to get proper clearance and to align roller wheel with valve stem tip?
