FE Technical Forum / Re: Headers and Port Match Question
« on: March 06, 2020, 06:23:17 PM »
I used Remflex on the Shelby. I have ported Edelbrocks. They are about .250 thick and crush to about .125.  I have used them twice and they are burn and blow-out proof. The graphite material is rated to 3,000 degrees.  I have 6114 Hookers with the welded bead. No leaks what so ever.

I know seasonally speaking bears are uncommon. However, I had a cabin in Big Bear CA. and at times you'd see bear out when they should have been in hibernation.   Perhaps the Bear was up for a mid-slumber snack?
Anyway, be careful out there and don't leave any food scraps in the trash close to the house.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Oil Temperature?
« on: March 04, 2020, 06:33:22 PM »
With few exceptions, oils are designed to operate at a maximum of 230-260 degrees. Oil boils at about 500 degrees.  Hot Rod did an article a few years ago on just this question.
This may be somewhat helpful.

Non contact thermometer IR gun’s are great for this. Quick verification of gauge function.
That's a good idea.  I was also thinking of sticking a thermocouple down the dipstick tube once the engine was hot and after I turn it off.

I was about to mention just that. It would allow you to measure the temperature in the sump.

It's the Millenial mindset I am referring to. I lit my son in law up over the "everything is disposable and it's betterjust to replace" mentality. Those like you are the rarity in your age group. You give me hope that all is not lost.  I'm generation X. The first year.  I had both parents at home and my father could fix anything. He was a specialty electrician who worked most of the explosion-proof electrical. They called him in to fix what the union electricians screw up or couldn't figure out. I am a problem solver by nature and wound up picking up what my father did. He owned a Mobil station when I was young and after working at different refineries would do mechanical work at night. It gave me a unique opportunity. If I wanted to spend time with him it was working... On something. He never slowed down.
He retired from Chevron at 75.
You don't fit the profile but I have no doubt you know who many in your age group that fit the stereotype.

Anyway, Autozone, OReilly, NAPA or Parts Plus don't turn drums or rotors in the area and my comment was based on the two countermen who immediately said: " No one turns rotors or rotors any more. They just buy new ones. Not happening on a Shelby and not available off the shelf.

Yes, I agree. However, if I stay on the street it stays about the same regardless. It's just after I make a run on the highway where I am running at 3200-3500 and get off it comes up and stays that way for 20 minutes or so post.

I know about Smith Gauges. Most U.S. versions are in PSI and Fahrenheit. I'm well aware of where Cobras were made.  ( Real ones)

Are you Canadian? 8) U.S. gauges don't read in centigrade. My Shelby holds seven quarts of oil. Even when it's 100 degrees here it stays at about 175 ( 80C)  degrees. When it's about 50 degrees out I run more about 120 degrees. ( 50C)

I have been doing primarily street driving. I have started doing short freeway runs. Being it turns 3500 at 70, I haven't taken it on a long trip.
I have been noting that when I come off the freeway and hit a few lights that the temperature starts running about 20% higher on the gauge for about 20 minutes post exiting. Is there a reason for this?

Thank you, Gentlemen. I twisted a factory 31 spline axle and it, in turn, was out of round and destroyed the inner seal. The gear oil leaked past the axle bearing, down the backing plate and ran into the drum.  Stupid stuff. Not much I can do about it but fix it. I was surprised the 31 spline Ford axle twisted being I haven't been that hard on the car. The new G2s are pretty sticky and it hooks up fairly well now.
Thank you again for the lead on the shoes. I called NAPA. What the hell? No one turns drums and rotors anymore? Millennials don't fix anything! They throw it away and replace it!
Have a great week

Many of you will remember Velvatouch? I think that was the manufacture. I am looking for brake shoes that are 1.090 X 2.5" with a semi-metallic liner.
My Shelby has  63-66 Thunderbird rear drum brakes with few options even for quality replacements.
Does anyone know who might reline shoes with performance linings?

Even with my discount and shipping via Fed Ex ground won't ship a set of iron heads for 75.00.  The Edelbrocks were returned to me via USPS and it was 68.00 in one box at 60lbs. Iron heads complete are about 102lbs.

Jay:
Are you planning on offering a head that looks like a factory head and fits factory intake and rockers?
