Would you use Ford shim head gaskets if you could find some? I may have a source for you.

Got an email back from Borgeson about steering box clearance.
They tell me that their power steering conversion box will NOT CLEAR CAST HEADERS.

Will the Borgson power steering box clear shorty cast headers in a 1960 Galaxie? 427 with factory heads. Photos that I have seen make the clearance appear close.

FE Technical Forum / Center oiler block bypass question.
« on: April 30, 2019, 05:06:24 PM »
I am building a 427 for my 60 starliner. the block has no oil bypass hardware and the thread for the plug appears to be 5/8-18. Did Ford use a dedicated plug for this? Does it seal with a copper washer?Help!

FE Technical Forum / Streetmaster question for Jay Brown
« on: April 14, 2019, 09:48:47 AM »
Jay did the mr port matched streetmaster used in the dyno tests also have the plenum modification performed? I have read carefully and still am not sure.

While not having to do with camshaft life, I believe this story will interest some of you. Back in the 80's I had a conversation with Bobby Allison who was in Michigan for the race at MIS. He would fly his plane north and do some short track races before MIS. He said he visited a man in Wisconsin who built Buick V6 nascar engines. The story goes that he tried Mobil 1 on the dyno and noticed that the oil temp. had gone down while testing the engine. He first concluded this to be the result of reduced friction. However, valve springs began to fail. These engines are dry sump designs that flood the valve springs with oil to carry the heat away. It turned out that the lower oil temps. recorded were the result of the synthetic oil not being able to transfer heat away from the valve springs as well as the conventional oil did. True or not, that is the story that I was told.

FE Technical Forum / Rear main sealing
« on: November 26, 2018, 09:57:14 AM »
I have been told by people in the seal business that a small percentage of rear main lip seal conversion leaks are caused by variance in the seal cavity.  It is said that since a rope style seal was to be used the tolerance for the cavity was not held particularly close as it would not matter with the rope seal. I believe the number was around 8%. Does this theory hold water,or oil, sorry.

Are there any good lip seal rear main products for the FE on the market? I have had good luck with Best Gasket seals on other type engines.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Sidewinder fuel distribution
« on: November 19, 2018, 08:26:27 AM »
Thanks everyone for the response. The 390 seemed to like the sidewinder intake along with a ford c/sa cheater cam adjustable rockers adjusted to the top of travel and about .080 off the heads. Would run 13.90 at 101 with stock exhaust. Beat every 396 chevelle in town!

FE Technical Forum / Sidewinder fuel distribution
« on: November 18, 2018, 12:56:41 PM »
Hello all, I am new here so this post may not be quite up to speed. I have been reading Jay Brown's intake comparo book with great interest. In regard to the sidewinder intake fuel distribution problem; in 1967 I put one of these manifolds on my 390 mustang. At the time the word was that the carb. offset to the left was done to equalize fuel mixture on the NASCAR tracks where centrifugal force from turning left caused the right hand cylinders to run rich. I figure I might be just old enough that maybe others never heard this theory. Any comments?
