FE Technical Forum / Re: Heads up, Harland Sharp rocker shafts
« on: February 12, 2025, 10:19:01 AM »
I did fit a straight edge along the rocker studs as installed in the head and they appeared to be in good alignment as was the spacing. Also to be clear, there is no doubt that said mounting holes were definitely off center and centering the offending holes cured the problem.

Was having trouble sliding rocker assys. down over the mounting studs. Upon inspection I discovered stud holes in the shafts are off center as much as .025 and as most of you know that converts to .050 tir. I have corrected this on my shafts but not everyone has a milling machine handy. Now don't get me wrong, I love my HS rockers and am aware HS have a fine product. Just something to be aware of.

Despite my meticulous record keeping methods (huh?) I cannot find the data slip for my ARP rocker mounting studs. Not wanting to guess at it, someone please chime in with the torque spec for said studs. Thanks.

All FEs have the same flywheel bolt pattern whether internal or external balanced.

Answering my own question. Charted with the rotary table on the mill.. If the photo will come through here it is.

Do any of you have FE flywheel bolt pattern dimensions either in XY straight line charting or in degrees ( I believe all holes are on a common BC dimension). I am making a flywheel balancing mandrel and do not wish to transfer locations from a flywheel, might end up with a bad copy of a poor original!

FE Technical Forum / reuseable head gasket
« on: December 28, 2024, 02:15:58 PM »
To what extant and under what circumstances are Cometic MLS head gaskets reusable? The set I have are quite thin at .026 if it matters and I am using ARP head studs. Also FYI my actual bore size is 4.270 so I ordered 4.400 gaskets and the gasket clears the bore with approx .060 or so quite evenly all around.

Question, do the quoted bore sizes for various head gasket applications (Comedic specifically) refer to the engine bore size or do they refer to the actual diameter on the gasket? Info that I have seen seems murky. My application is a .040 over 427 FE .030 compressed thickness. As these are a bit pricey I would prefer to order the correct gaskets the first time. Any info appreciated.

OK Berry and thanks for the reply. Anything else rattling around the shop? I do have machine shop capability as will as head work experience.

Has anyone reading this recently ordered and received Barry's new FElony head bare castings? My concern is not with the heads but with timely delivery. I am aware that Barry can be difficult to contact at times due to a busy schedule. Don't want to sit around wondering if they will ever show up. Is personal pickup an option?

Vendor Classifieds / WANTED Toploader shifter
« on: September 11, 2024, 04:03:06 PM »
Switching from C6 to toploader in my '60 Starliner. I have scored a big in big out Galaxie transmission but now I need a shifter. Not just a shifter but linkage and shifting arms. Factory Ford or Hurst would work. Project items OK.

What brand is that and do you have it up and running?
