Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: Kiwi Classics FE Mustang

I hate Mustang II suspension for the very problems he shows. Rack site way up high. I saw one at the SEMA show, FE 63 Galaxie with a single stage external oil pump , pan was shallow at the front. I have also seen a dry sump on a pretty stock 302 with exhaust manifolds... all to give more spark plug room.
So his solution is going to mean the whole tunnel and tranny crossmember needs to move rearward, the air clearer runs into the bracing at the back of the hood and protrudes out the front of the scoop unless the scoop is moved to the back edge. Power brake booster won't fit any more,  steering shaft may foul the oil filter too.

How much power does that puller make with the turbos?
I had a chance two buy two quite cheaply. They are rather huge and heavy so the Fairlane wasn't going to get one and I wasn't sure an extra 670 cubic inches would help my ramp trucks gas mileage any. Kind of liked the idea of lots of low RPM torque though. Jim Green ended up with those and not sure where they are now he's passed.

I thought i did but can only find one for Cyclone headers. If it's like them the only smallblock Ford headers are a fits-all for Maverick/Mustang/Falcon/Fairlane.70's Torino and a 79-up (63 catalog  Fox body and a Mustang II version Just the 3. There are several numbers for 351M trucks different 4x4 vs two wheel drive, different 79 and earlier than 80-up.
I would imagine Blackjack had similar.

I watched that a few days ago. Brian does a great job of these videos. The 554 footage is so cool

Very cool to get to see that engine in person.

There was two of those for sale on local Craigslist a couple years ago for decent deals. One non turbo and one turbo and both with slushbox tranny, computer and wiring.
It made me think but I decided against it due to the unique bellhousing pattern and the fact simple things like gaskets may turn into lengthy expensive hunts.

One of the cars I saw there and thought was very well done is in this video. I also got to meet Nicole there. She does a good job of getting the whole story of this Buick. Sheesh just the license plate is more effort than many of the cars !

Where there is a will there is a way ! Check the videos of the Aardema V12 . Welding tabs an aluminum 460 block would easier.

There is a Whipple or similar screw blower with a carb flange on top. Someone has one on a street rod with BB Chevy around here. Carb sits at the back of the blower so in the way of the firewall for a pickup and would be too tall to fit most car hoods.

Edit: that would be a good use for an Offy 360 flat intake, those things look like a blower plenum.

The two cam thing will probably not work with any cast block anyone makes. A billet block will add a huge challenge and expense.

That is a cool project.
If the block is even close to the 460 style you may be able to get one made or semi-finished by an existing supplier. Glen May had blocks cast for his Boss 429 ProMod using Cleveland main bearings, no water jackets and other non-production things. I think Carroll Carter but there are others.

I've always found the large tube easier because they come apart in sections. No need to jack the engine, pull starter, motor mounts or clutch linkage.

Car looks great but I think i'm spotting the curse of the long term project... rule changes. Now the D/SA cars have run 9's (Teuton's 09 Challenger as I recall) can you fit the car in any classes that won't need a full cage?

Well that 68 "MY" Montego sure is special... a Cobra Jet, says 11 built. Where was the Spolier II from?

Thanks for the links. Toyo Treadpass was where the car was, a sort of huge tent between the buildings and on my way to the 7-11 for cheap food and beer about 1000 feet away. Most of the car have no signs so sometimes I miss some stuff,

If some rich mook is crazy enough to overpay that much so be it,  but the truckle down effect will raise prices for the rest of us... now that distributor clamp is not just an FE but could be part of a hundred grand worth.
