Actually I do have a set of sprint car headers- came off a car that ran on the half mile at Calistoga, with a High Riser and Algons back in the 70's, in the open exhaust days- yeah  :D Sure would drown out those Chebbies lol. Have no idea where they are, maybe out in the shed. Another option, any chance you can use some boat headers that go out and up? I have a set of Bassetts off a jet that I use on my test stand, might be easier to find locally

FE Technical Forum / Re: Trickflow heads (Not sure where to post this)

When the TFS heads came out, there was grumbling about the taller stand surfaces, and some were machining them down to match up with the usual stand length. It never made sense to me, as it seemed better to keep the solid head material taller (and have more thread engagement) and shorten the stand, as it is just a chunk of metal with no clamping force, and it's length is pretty irrelevant to strength. The problems that some had with extreme spring pressures on the Blue Thunder setup would seem to reinforce this

With iron heads, I have had very good results using the old factory steel shim gaskets by spraying them with aluminum hi-heat header paint, let the first coat tack up, spray again and install wet. The set on the 427 in my Galaxie has been installed 4 times now, and still holding compression and coolant. Maybe the Ford engineers knew what they were doing lol

I was planning to make one from a piece of 1/2" plate I have that's about the right width, figured I'd cut it to size and trim one side on the Bridgeport or take it down to the neighbor's speed shop. Would be pretty easy to drill n tap a hole for a gauge and air input, and just use the honing plate for the other side. Seems a good idea as I have a couple sets of Dove heads, and one set was bought with the understanding that there were a couple leaks

Another one? Did you find one you like better, or find something you don't like about this kind?

I will make a suggestion and then shut up. Instead of continuing to fumble with this, send Brent all the parts/specs from your engine, and let him set you up with a cam/ lifter/ spring setup. Give him all the specs he asks for, and let him do it. Should work fine after that, he's pretty good on cams.
Or don't lol  :o

Just a thought, if I was going to take the .016 off the front of the cam, I think I would try it with an old junk cam first to see it it works

It is my understanding that the Dove like mine is also larger inside than the original? Of course I could go look it up in Jay's book, but maybe others like Joe Craine can confirm?

That has to be the biggest cam I've ever seen!  2379 degrees of duration!  :D

Must be a bitch to get started- might need a pony motor of an old CAT to get it spinning fast enough. And I thought the 330/600 was long duration!
