Interesting idea for pressuring the oil system. I'll be watching for pricing

JMHO but I believe if you stop sticking with the whole "twist" thing, you will probably stop having problems. One can still rotate a pushrod for a ways past zero lash, which introduces a variable that can throw off your adjustment

That wider T-pan sump makes the oil level lower (closer to the pickup) for a given quantity of oil

Trim to fit pistons for maximum compression. Also pretty old, hence the wide rings

The main reason for the new C5AE casting number was the change in the casting to the 4-bolt mount flange

Don't know if you remember but you joined us for lunch at the Nantucket in Crockett after one of the Fun Ford Sunday shows in Vallejo quite a few years ago.

Dayum, I miss that place- steak n lobster. I always parked in the front row by the train tracks on dates- something about the vibrations of the trains going by had an effect on the frisky girls lol. My Indian seems to have the same effect about 3 grand. Still can't believe it's gone

The XL package that included the console came out in mid-'62, as did the 406 engine, making mine a "twofer". And it's original black. My other one is an XL ragtop, so it has the console with auto shifter. I also had a '64 Fairlane Sport Coupe that had the buckets with the same console, but it was a column shift auto with the blank console plate. I think I have an extra blank plate around here somewhere
Yes, many times. Almost always at Hannan's. I'd have lunch with Paul and friends once or twice a week many years ago.

Yep, Walter dealt with them a lot. I built the engine in my buddy's '70 Boss 302 in '79, and Hannan's did the heads, with an old road race trick, 5/16 stem 426 Hemi valves

Try Al Hubbard Machine on Meekland Ave. Hayward. Talk to Wade but hurry as he is looking to close up shop and retire. I've dealt with that shop for well over 50 years when Al Hubbard owned the shop.

Did you ever run into Cantrell in there? That and Hannan's

I had a set in the late 70's and ran them on my 69 Mach1 with a four speed, fit pretty good

Piston knurling is an old-school tactic for restoring function (temporarily) by taking up the clearance. Works kinda OK for low-rpm tractors n such. I have some old Caterpillar shop magazines from WWII with tips for getting a little more service from worn out engines, when all the new parts were going into wartime production and repair. Heavy ridge reaming, knurling, shimming bearings etc., anything to keep them running reasonably well. High oil consumption was to be expected lol. The old CAT Master Mechanic who gave them to me started out on destroyers in the Pacific in WWII
