Blackie, I don't know where you're located but I used a small battery business in Wichita. They were able to use my dimensions and hold-down reqmts. and came up with a maintenance-free battery made in Korea that fit perfectly. I paid about $120. for it which was about the going price at the time. It's about 4 years old now and still going strong. Maybe there's a similar business close to you?

Outstanding job Joe! A couple of questions of you don't mind.
1. Did you start with a 312 block?
2. I understand you ported the heads, did you start with the Mummert aluminum versions?
3. I've seen on a Y forum that Ford of Argentina developed a head in later years that didn't use the stacked intake arrangement. Have you had any experience with those heads?
Last, what version of Y are you installing in your T-Bird?

CD, Bud Potter of budsclassiccars.com may have some insight for you. I realize he supports '63 and '64 only but might know what underside primers were used in '62. My Dallas-built '63 Galaxie was sprayed underneath with a red primer from the factory. It was also undercoated probably by the dealer but I've been able to remove a lot of it and was able to see what color was used.

Heo, those sockets with the U-joint built in are pretty common. I have a set by Snap-On that dates from the 70s. I'm sure you could buy them locally.

I saw Chaos adverts about 1-2 weeks before the event on FB. I know one of the competitors, Jeff Cameron who has a Firebird blown alcohol FC. He qualified 9th but not sure where he ended up. Jeff runs the body/paint side of the family hot rod business, Dooley & Sons which is close to me.

Heo and Doug sorry for the loss of your friend and Dad. We lost my Mom-in-Law last summer, she was 92 and I'd known her since 1973 when I met my future wife. She was one of thousands who migrated to California from the Midwest during the dust bowl era. It does help to be grateful every day for the ones we've lost and to appreciate even more the ones we still have in our life.

At the end of the day the decision is yours of course. My friend has a '67 R-Code Fairlane which was originally Raven Black. When he had the car restored he had it painted the original color which he said has brown and olive green in the paint mix. If it was me I'd go with the original black but just about any black is going to look great.

Dearborn Classics advertise soft trim for our cars in their catalog but I'm not sure if Ecklers owns them now.
SMS Auto Fabrics would give the best quality but tend to have long deliveries in the best of times. You could call SMS and see if they have your fabric in stock; if so they could ship you the fabric and you can have it sewn up locally. Btw you can find your original fabric on the SMS website before calling.

I think every one of us needs to own a '56 sometime in our life! I had one that was my DD in about the same condition as this one; it had a Mileage Maker 6 and a 4:10 rear. I can tell you it was not a mileage maker! 
I was traveling up I-5 in CA to visit my Sis in the Central Valley and the truck suddenly just died. I sat by the side of the freeway for a few mins, then lifted the hood and somehow figured out it was the carb. I took the top off the carb and saw the float had fallen to the bottom of the bowl! I put the float back in place, buttoned up the carb and all was well!
The 3/4 ton with the longer bed can be made to look pretty good too. I think Dennis Carpenter reproduces the entire F1 bed.
