FE Engine Dyno Results / 352 Daily Driver 438 hp/456 tq
« on: March 21, 2025, 07:47:08 PM »
This little engine was so neat I had to post it.  It is a daily driver, 352 + .062 overbore.  Low lift, short duration, 16” idle vacuum.  3x2 EFI on top of the new BBM heads, cnc 2.100 intake ports. Static CR is 9.2:1 and built for 91 octane California gas.

We made 438 hp/456 torque with dyno headers.  We swapped on a set of Kugel Komponents cast shorties at the end, as that is what will be used in the ‘65 pickup it is going in.  It didn’t hurt it much, and would likely be even closer, but they had a hard bend in the 2.5” pipes between the headers and my exhaust tubes.  Still had 415 hp/ 437 torque!!

Daniel put a short dyno vid on YouTube @captcobrajet.

FE Engine Dyno Results / 500” Iron High Riser 742 hp/ 674+ tq
« on: February 22, 2025, 10:44:07 PM »
This was a neat project with some constraints so I thought I would share it.  This engine is going in a real ‘63 Lightweight Galaxie.  The owner wanted to use the C3AE-K early High Riser head to be “period correct”.   Lance Hargis sniffed out a pair of NOS “K” heads.  The K heads are not as good as the F.  The 1970 dated High Riser castings are the best Ford castings, but we needed to use the late ‘63 castings for this.  I hand ported the exhaust side.  For the intakes, I used the prototype port that I made for the Pond High Riser aluminum heads.  I prepped and filled the floors with epoxy, and put some intake seats in with a smaller throat.  The OE throat cut on the K head was too big to support a nice valve job.  The customer had a damaged K head, so we spent some time positioning the cnc program in the K head properly.  Once satisfied with location, we ran the program on the filled NOS heads.  It came out great.  Huge low lift numbers, 325 at .500, and almost 340 at .540.  It went 350 at .600 but we didn’t go there as explained below.

We did not want to cut the ultra rare heads for paired shaft T&D, so I modified the single shaft bolt-on T&D, and limited the lift to a .540 solid roller to keep spring pressures safe, only using the OE mounting.  The block is a ‘63 Top Oiler, 4.278 bore.  The customer had a 4.375 Crower billet crank.  I used one of the last sets of US-made Crower Sportsman 6.700 rods that were made before they stopped doing them.  CP pistons, Total Seal rings.  14:1 static CR.  Repop CV/CU carbs from Carl’s that I went through and prepped like we do for Stock Eliminator.  High Riser “F” 2x4 manifold.  This engine looks externally like a High Riser from the day.

I thought it was neat to see power like this with a bunch of 60+ year old stuff and only a .540 lift camshaft.  There is nothing in this engine that was made in China.  :)

Vendor Classifieds / Edelbrock Performer
« on: August 07, 2021, 01:08:49 PM »
I have a nearly new, unmolested, Edelbrock Performer manifold for sale.  $200 plus ship.  captcj at hughes dot net.

Also have a used Comp hyd flat tappet cam. XE262H with Comp lifters.  This has approximately 200 miles on it.  Cam and lifters made it through the break-in, and lifters are in order. I still would put some moly on it but it has already made the hurdle in my opinion.  Cam and lifters  $125 plus ship.

*Comp 926 springs and matching retainers from above cam.  $65

Thanks

FE Engine Dyno Results / Mild 535 inch Hillbilly Prep Nostalgia FE
« on: September 04, 2020, 09:47:09 PM »
We ran this unit last week.  There was a little more in it, based on past info, but we ran out of time.  Customer was looking for around 800 hp, and 700-ish torque, so when we got past there, we didn't beat it on it too hard.  I had 31° timing in it, but it had a rather large dome by my standards, and a 72 cc chamber.  I usually run much smaller chambers, with just a bump dome, but these heads migrated from another project, so more dome was needed.  I think another 2.5 ° would have shown more power.  I reckon they can test that in the vehicle.

Cubic inch:                 535    (4.345 x 4.500)
Peak Horsepower:    893 at 6500 rpm
Peak Torque:             794 at 5100 rpm
Compression ratio:  13.5:1
Camshaft:                 .700 lift solid roller
Heads:                     BPE   MR Race Pro Port Edelbrock
Manifold:                 BPE modified BBM Tunnel Wedge
Carbs:                       940-ish cfm modified center squirters, inline with factory style linkage.

Vendor Classifieds / In search of.......
« on: February 22, 2020, 08:19:40 PM »
Where is Leonard Nimoy when I need him?  I need an upper distributor for a Mickey Thompson Cross Ram manifold.  I have the correct lower piece.  I need one to dyno with on carbs.  I'll have to machine the customer's dual synch for dual EFI throttle bodies, but I just need to run the engine before we ship.  Any help appreciated.

*We just received a fresh pallet of Pro Ports to start the new year.  There are MANY options on these.....valve sizes, intake ports, exhaust ports, and chamber volumes.  From stock Medium Riser location flanges to super radical Medium and even High Riser intake port configurations and relocated exhaust ports that come with flanges included.  I guarantee we can create the best currently available wedge FE heads for any application from the Pro Port casting platform, and our plethra of proven programs.  Efficient chambers that only require low 30s for total timing, and chamber volume options from 80cc to 58cc without excessive milling from Edelbrock as-shipped deck demensions.

*Pond Medium and High Riser heads are coming through.  Several options on these heads.  I designed the intake port on the new High Riser heads, and they have a very good exhaust port that Robert used from his Medium Riser aluminum heads.

*BBM heads, also several options.  I have an affordable new cnc chamber program for these that really improves the 0-.450 lift flow, and also a new cnc intake program for 2.220 valves that is average 25 cfm better than the as-cast heads.  The as-cast BBM chamber is very efficient, and the exhaust ports are also very good.   BBMs with the cnc chamber and intake port, with a hand cleanup in the exhaust are a great bang for the buck if Pro Ports are out of your budget.

*We also have cnc iron "EMC heads",  Trick Flow with upgrades, anything Edelbrock at great prices, and also work on any OE iron heads, Blue Thunder, or any FE wedge or SOHC castings.

We have a second seat and guide machine in the pipeline.....planning to expand our capability on FE cylinder heads in the new year.

If interested in heads or head work, please email to captcj at Hughes dot net.  We can establish a communication line and discuss your needs/options.

Thanks very much!
