FE Technical Forum / Distributor Springs
« on: July 08, 2022, 10:58:50 AM »
The Mr. Gasket springs are too weak for my needs.  Does anyone know if the spring kits sold for Pertronix distributors or the Pro Products 31003 spring kit below contain springs that are suitable for FE distributors.  Suitable meaning the right length and close to the right diameter?

FE Technical Forum / Duraspark Wiring Question
« on: May 14, 2022, 08:00:17 AM »
I have a Duraspark distributor with a 3 wire plug in connector.  The black wire appears to be ground.  Do the other two wires care about polarity?  In other words, which wire is + and which wire is -?
I am being cautious here because if you hook up a Pertronix I with the wrong polarity it fries.

FE Technical Forum / Intake Manifold Fit - Experience Requested
« on: June 15, 2020, 11:35:03 AM »
My first aluminum intake installation.  I am mocking up the fit.  I have snugged the end bolts of the intake until I get zero clearance at the top of the manifold.  It didn't take much "snugging" to get there.  I then have around .020" at the bottom.  I am using the Reinz/Carquest MS15166X intake gasket and am pretty committed to using these because the intake is port matched using them.  See photo below.

So, is it reasonable to expect this to all pull up and seal OK or must I do some angle machining on the intake?  BTW, bolt hole alignment is good.

FE Technical Forum / Bearing Coating Removal
« on: June 13, 2020, 08:11:39 PM »
The F-M rod bearings have what appears to be a pretty heavy coating of some preservative, sort of like Cosmoline but not sticky.  Should I remove this coating or just leave it?  Is it general practice (still) to clean these and scuff them with a Scotch Brite pad?  It doesn't just wipe off and will require some elbow grease to remove.

FE Technical Forum / Vacuum Advance Eliminator/Lockout Plate
« on: October 10, 2019, 11:48:52 AM »
Is anyone aware of a commercially available vacuum advance eliminator for Autolite/Motorcraft FE distributors?  I see ones that say HEI, but since I have never owned a HEI distributor I am not aware of the differences so don't know what "fits".  Proform makes one that looks like it might work.

FE Technical Forum / Pipe Plugs into Aluminum Intake - Material ?
« on: September 16, 2019, 05:16:10 PM »
I recall putting an aluminum fitting into an aluminum manifold and it seized up tight - like forever!  So, maybe I did something wrong or what is the best/better pipe plug material for aluminum intake manifolds?  I have brass and steel and am afraid of aluminum now.

I tried Google for this and - well - some say aluminum with anti-seize is fine and some say brass because it is close in galvanic properties.  Or stainless steel (harder to find).

Anyone have experience, good or bad, with these lifters?  Says "lightweight".  My postage scale says 66 grams (2.3 oz.).  Is that light?
