FE Technical Forum / Re: 'Line Bore' Timing Chain Sets
« on: September 20, 2024, 09:08:18 AM »
The hill Billy method is when you bolt on a new timing set and the chain is loose, if you know the engine has been built a few times then you can assume you need one or bolt another standard timing set on just to verify the first set was correct and not flawed and then go tighter set

.065 is pretty thin , I was worried about .113 in a non thrust spot on one cylinder and had a half fill on my D2 block with Pro Gram caps that was other wise .225 and thicker on the other cylinders

Did you have to fill the floor on the intake manifold too ?

Edelbrock copied Ford and on and on, I get it but not all imports are the same , TM Enertprises Clevland heads are foreign and seem pretty nice ... 21-4N valves and 5 angle valve job on a set of Promaxx my shop installed for a customer car on a SBC 350, we had our local machine shop Performance Clinic check them out before hand and he was impressed with them , they apparently had some Speedmaster heads in there that were terrible but my one and only experience with them was pleasant

« on: August 02, 2024, 07:22:51 AM »
I've never installed a AFR gauge just for idle but once installed you check everything and every mode, super rich or super lean will burn eyes from the unburned fuel going out the exhaust , seems like Drew just posted on FB about a carb he received that didn't have the secondary idle feed holes cut in the gasket causing a real lean condition at idle so you might just need to take apart and give the carb a good look over

Pinion yoke still tight ? I've seen a few that were loose brought into the shop and they make a ton of noise on deacceleration and quiet under load

Maybe the spiral gears and being new/tight caused a momentary binding situation that is now fine after more miles ? I've only built one with the Tru Tracs and it was a carry in type deal and new parts but I do see the customer frequently and never get complaints of noise

TDC is not a good timing setting for anything, set it at 15 base timing for testing

Untouched basically , someone finished the quarters where the wheel well were stretched for the 14x32's but other than that it's never had a drivetrain installed or driven since I last drove it , it's an Art Morrison rear frame rail , coil over ladder bar kit with the removal lower link to set pinion angle easier , it was going to be a small block DNE 5 speed combo back then but I'd rather install the BP FE in this instead of my Fairlane now

Thanks guys , I have a chance to buy my 65 Fastback that I sold in 1989 , I had it ladder/tubbed with coil overs and ran through some hard times and had to sell it , 35 years later I see a similar car in the FB market place thinking wow this brings back memories , as I kept looking it had my wheels Crager super slots (they only made them for a year)and the 7 inch snorkel hood scoop just like how I sold it , interior looked the same , it's still a roller just like I sold , so I messaged the owner and said I think that's my old car and I only have one picture of it tubbed and that's the day I sold it , so I get to work Monday and take a picture of a picture and sent it to him and he replies back that's your car !! So 4 owners later and 35 years untouched from my last time at ownership it looks like I'm getting my old car back next week and plan to stuff a FE in it and probably a tear drop hood to replace the snorkel scoop :) I am stoked to get this back

Was it the car that was converted from hardtop to Fastback? I’m almost sure the build was posted here but I can’t find it
