I have a sideoiler block that our old friend Hollis Franks was ready to take to the steel mill as he was pissed at it. He had spent a lot on it, lifter bores are bushed, and it has thick sleeves in all 8- too thick in my opinion. Bored into water, and decks compromised. It ran fine, but soon blew bubbles. He bought a std block from me, and brought the old one along "look at this!". Hate to give up on it, otherwise nice block. My buddy has a 672 ci 460 in his Pro Modified pulling truck, which has 1" thick deck plates and then sleeves- gotta admit, 460's are easier, just not as cool lol

And as I said, there were no "'64 Mercury 410 blocks". One can easily build a "410" on an early two-bolt block, but they didn't come from the factory that way in '64- as most of us know, the 410 did not come out until '66, same as the 428, using the 1U crank, on the later 4-bolt flange blocks that work with the later engine mounts. One might also get lucky and find one that has been built as a 410 by someone on the early block, but it didn't come from the factory that way

If you do a little research, you will find that blocks beginning with C5's came with the 4-bolt mounting flange as a change- so a two-bolt C4 block wouldn't fit correctly with the later factory engine mounts

Ihave one of those C5AE blocks on a complete engine i dont know
how it looks inside

The C5AE blocks were either 390 or 427 center oilers, with the reason for the new casting number being the new 4-bolt mount flanges

That would be very rare as the 410 Merc FE was 66-67 only

Yes, my mistake for not being clear; what I perhaps should have said was:  that I've seen and had several of the 410's that utilize a block that has the casting box on the side and up high (not as typical for FE's) that says "C4AE".  And then of course there's the "C5AE' blocks that also seem to commonly have the additional webbing and bosses, but I haven't witnessed those as being so commonly utilized as for the Mercury 410's.   :)

     Scott.

Nice try but no. Factory-built 410 Mercs were 66-67 only, probably C6ME or C7ME blocks. But one can build a "410" from any 390-360 block (or even a 352). The 3.98 stroke crank did not come out until '66, in both the 410 and 428. Maybe you just saw one that someone built on an early 390 block. I actually have one of those '64 blocks that I am saving to make a 410, as the bores are cherry, and I have std, .020 and .030 pistons. I have another C4 shortblock that I'm hoping is the same

Gene, what is the distance, from the front of the first throttle to the back of the last one?

12"

The additional webbing and the cross-bolt bosses were also seemingly commonly found in the '64 Mercury 410 blocks.    :)

Very complete and original Crower 8H Injection- if you can find a more complete one, you better buy it! Has the original side decals, original Crower barrel valve with decal and lines, and the original leather boot with Crower logo patch. Disclosure, it has a hairline crack or casting flaw in the hat- see picture- can't see or feel it on the inside. Nostalgia Alcohol or Nitro, this was a very good performing and popular unit of Garlits etc back in the day. $3,000 plus UPS shipping

It kinda sounds like the familiar story of a Chebbie- infused shop trying to wing it through an FE build using what they know works on a Chebbie. Anyone with much performance FE experience would know that those size valves won't go in a 390 block. Starting from scratch on how to do a strong FE many times ends up with some nice parts getting boogered up as the builder tries to make it into a Chebbie. Too many FE- savvy shops out there- they are just different than Chebbies

The Mini's and Bugeye Sprites were hilarious to watch
My admission ticket to the '65 USRRC race at Watkins Glen. I still have all the old race programs
