I'd imagine the most stress on it is when the starter is engaged. don't see a problem with it slipping, especially with a roller cam. I like it the way it is, easy to adj. no buttons, keys, eccentrics. KISS.

Many thanks guys. No wonder the 360's were gutless gas hogs. I would have never imagined that's how ford lowered comp. When I googled these there wasn't much info out there other than a set on ebay. now if I'd only bought all those shorty cast headers at Carlisle when they were $50 bucks.........

the rings also TRW were in a separate box, but the pistons were all together in the original box dated 1983. I have a 64 390 block that should clean up at .030 with C3AE-C rods. I may have a set of C7 rods somewhere though. is there a rod diff. that they are listed as 66 & up or is it more to do with comp. ratio or head  cc? the wrist pin location & size & ring groves are exactly the same as the orig. 64 390 piston. If it were a 360 piston I would imagine the pin would be farther down. the 64 pistons have valve reliefs & are dished in the center, these are flat tops with reliefs. I was thinking of just building a mild fresh motor for the 62 in case my 352 goes south. Maybe the voice in my head is one of Barry's 445s are calling to me.

FE Technical Forum / trw piston question

20 - 30 years ago I bought a set of trw L2291A pistons at Carlisle. they were brand new in the box with the rings. I've see L2291F's but not A's.
anybody know what they are? were they troublesome? can I use them or should I just scrap-em? they are marked .030 over & I only paid $30 bucks.
the box had 390 forged scribbled on it. thanks for your input.

is that track still uphill? I used to race there in the 70's & it was a bitch to stay staged in the left lane without  rolling back & red lighting.

real cars don't have wipers you can pick up & stay up, like cockroach antennnas. as a matter of fact, vacuum wipers rule. When you decelerate those tickets will leave home in a hurry.

the time to run the vin is b4 you buy it not after. too bad so sad. I can remember a few years ago at Carlisle the penisylvania state police were removing front fenders from shelbys to check the vin stampings. If the owner wouldn't do it on the spot, the car was impounded & towed. Myself, if I've bought the vette, I would have kept my mouth shut & used it for my winter rat, & then parted it out. the new owner is most certainly out the car & the money. sucks.

If I didn't have so much shit, I'd move in a heartbeat, Penisylvania is getting me down. Had the itch to wrench, so I thought I'd pull the exhaust manifolds off a pair of old fe heads. No matter how hot or how long I soak them, I still manage to break the top bolts off. I don't know why I just didn't give them to my brother inlaw, He is a true artist at removing  rusty & broken bolts & studs. Now where did I put that tap & die set...............

if it fires & runs nice enough, I would be tempted to give it a light buff & leave it as is. it's gonna be the next craze & I dig it.

maybe pull the carb & run a magnet around inside the ports just to make sure nothing fell into it. nothing makes pieces quicker than  a screw from the carb or from some joker dropping something in just for kicks.

If you fire it & you decide just to just run it unrestored or rebuilt, at the very least replace the rubber valve stem seals. They get rock hard over the years & will disintegrate into small pieces rather quickly & eventually get into the oil pump, jamming it & twisting the pump drive shaft until it breaks off leaving you without oil pressure. Then all kinds of bad things will happen. Great find & keep us posted with your plans for the car.
