FE Technical Forum / Re: BBM 427 block build info?
« on: June 13, 2024, 01:37:54 PM »
Only problem I had with my block was the first engine shop I went to installed the cam bearings wrong one bearing was too far one way blocking a lifter from even going in and at the time I didn't really know about the wider front cam bearing and distributor they also didn't pick that up I did tell them the cam bearings are not the same as std fe bearings. They marked 1 lifter bore at the bottom too they said it would be ok but I got it fixed properly and had it bushed and all there work checked at a better shop "John white Racing Engines" he didn't find any other problems with the rest of there work or the block.

Do everything think of them as a semi finished block

apart from sloppy work from my first shop I am very happy with the block and I would have no problem buying bbm block heads and intake if I built a new engine

FE Technical Forum / vacuum heater tap on fe intakes
« on: June 13, 2024, 04:47:32 AM »
Can anyone see why this heater tap would not work on a tunnel wedge intake. Apart from it hitting intake runner or distributer
I would like to keep the water lines nice and neat and avoid having lines all over the place my A/C heater core only has 2 lines I think 67 had 3 any thoughts on how I can make it less ugly would be great

The overflow has a relief hole in the top, and it blew a bunch out. Car wouldn't start back up, popped out the carb once.

I first looked at my valve springs, since I recently replaced a broken spring. All looked OK.

Wondering about head gasket as well, compression into coolant? I'm still leaning on timing and ignition, but a compression test/leakdown may be in the near future.

I was more just trying to think of why it got so hot all of a sudden

Galaxiex could be onto somthing with the cam dowel.

I wonder if it sucked a bit of trash into the carb or fuel filter when you gave it a boot full of gas? Was your radiator still full with water? or did it push a bunch out into an overflow or on the ground?

FE Technical Forum / Re: Flexplate

I had my converter made for the ati flexplate as I didn't have a converter to start with. What shifter are you going to use? I had a hell of a time with the B/M ratchet shifter and the c'6 it was very tricky to get it to adjusted right.

I hate to say it but are you not better off pulling the engine and cleaning everything. be nothing worse then having it happen more then once

This is why I wish I had gone with one of jays intake adaptors and tunnelwedge type top would not be a big deal to pop the top off lift the valley cover have a check and away you go

Well that sucks

When I first was looking at buying engine parts I found a guy that had a 427 short block forsale he was drag racing it in an early mustang he was running a roller cam in it and he had some thing done to spray or get more oil down there I can't remember what it was but i think he had pipes running in the valley that put extra oil on the lifters. I didn't end up buying the bottom end it was 14-1 comp radical thing it did have a ton of very early go fast parts on it.

I may still have the photos I will look and see it I can find them.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 66 Factory A/C Fairlane Help
« on: June 03, 2024, 06:58:16 PM »
I need some help I got lucky last week and got my self a 66 fairlane factory a/c unit here in Australia 99% complete. Guy is putting a twin turbo 540 bbf in his 66 hardtop fairlane and decided the a/c was not needed so I grabbed it.

I need some help and photo's of some one who is building or has a factory a/c 66 fairlane

What would very help full is a pic of a 66 ac dash cluster for how the dash control's are marked
Any info diagrams photos of vacuum tank location and vacuum lines for heater/a/c box trap doors to dash controls.
And if any one has measurements of dash vents holes
Any books I can buy with 66/67 factory a/c info would be great too.

I plan to post about fitting it to my fairlane once I am deeper into the project I am almost finished rebuilding the indash heater-A/C box.
Thanks for any help

I think Blair Patrick is doing all BBM heads now there was a post not that long ago that Blair said he is doing BBM's cnc program and preping of bbm heads. I am not sure if Blair did my heads it was a few years ago now but mine look the same and flowed 350cfm @.700 on a 4.250 bore I got my heads flowed in Australia

FE Technical Forum / Re: Flexplate
« on: May 24, 2024, 12:31:17 PM »
I use an ATI c6 flex plate and a powermaster starter 0 problems at all. I been running mine for about a year now and I had the inspection plate off not that long ago and teeth looked good.

I will say that when I had my converter made it was made with 3/8th bolts and the ATI flex plate was 7/16 not sure why the converter guy did that just lazy I think but I fixed that with out any real problem.

something else to add did you buy the kit? flexplate and crank adapter kit? or just the flexplate?
