With all the talk of wanting to go EV and end fossil fuels these days, what Alternative Fuel types do you believe the FE could efficiently run on? Not sure that gasoline will ever be gone completely in our lifetimes but it's something to think about.

Thoughts?

Lot's of viable alternatives out there in research labs, the challenge is finding something that scales economically and can be mass produced on the millions of barrels per day scale that is required to offset gasoline consumption. Ethanol is the furthest along, but needs a better feedstock than corn. If cellulosic based ethanol ever comes on line, it probably has the best shot.

It is fairly simple to convert an FE, especially a high compression engine. Change the jetting and timing, make sure your soft parts are alcohol resistant and away you go.

Personally, I am waiting for Ford to revive the Nucleon concept. Uranium power, Baby!

I run straight Propane on my hot/rat rod. No stale gas to worry about.

There are carburetor options able to support 600hp NA, so plenty for any street car.

I did that in my go cart when I was a kid. Actually, butane from a torch cylinder. Used the torch knob as a throttle. Ran like a scalded cat until I blew the head off that old Tecumseh. Good days.

I guess the Propane or NG option could work. Where we live the NG company has most of their company service trucks running on NG and they are mostly newer F150's. I just wasn't sure how well an old carbureted pushrod V8 would do on that type of fuel.

Me and a friend built a car with a 2 cyl Archimedes engine when we was 10 -12years old
With ropestart, that kind where you have a knot at the end
of the rope and wind the rope around the flywheel.
We could not find the carb for it so we tried with a Norton
Dominator carb, not a sign of life so we gave it a dose with
the oxy/acetylen welder.......i sat in car and held a bit of throttle
With the velocitystack pointing at my face and friend pulling the rope
Fjuff Fjuff Fjuff KABOOOM it backfired so hard that the rope
Pulled my friend over the engine and the flame out of the stack
Torched my eyebrows and hair

The same attention in the new engines is also good for the old. The fuel doesn't know if the engine has push rods or not. As far as carburetor the technology is from the 70's but its very reliable and simple. Burns very clean and cylinder wear is greatly reduced vs gasoline or similar. Newer Ford trucks have the lpg/cng prep option when ordered. Which is better valve seats and exhaust valves. Inconel or similar. And some fuel rail stuff. That's where the newer stuff shines as they are able to use a sequential liquid injection system vs the old vaporous gas valve carb setup, taking advantage of the latent heat of vaporization.

I believe most LPG setups got a bad rap from the 70's and 80's due to improper engine and ignition setup resulting in lots of burned valves and seats. A rich mixture of LPG reacts in the opposite way of a rich gasoline mixture.

My 2013 F-250 6.2 was ordered with a duel gasoline-cng system.
I love it and just use gas when I figure it is starting to go bad.
Filled up with cng yesterday.
It was $169 a gallon and at the gas station it was $2.59 for regular unleaded so I wind up saving a lot on my fuel bill.
As an added bonus is I get 12.4 MPG with gas and 16.2 with CNG.
With both tanks full I can get all most 650 miles between fill up's.
I all ways thought it was reversed with gas getting better mileage.

Ive said if I ever buy a new truck it will be set up this way, just with LPG as its more accessible to me.

I love it and won't buy another truck without it.
I was going to get one with LPG as there are propane stations all over here but they cost a little more per gallon.
